A slightly altered Schacht floor loom brake system, on a handmade no brand floor loom made out of cherry wood. On the floor next to the loom is a home made raddle, made of nails in a poplar board. You can also see the rug on the floor and a blue couch through the legs of the floor loom.

As I finish up these towels, I now have to figure out a tweak for the brake before my next project. The brake release pedal doesn't put enough pressure on the brake to fully release right now... so I actually end up pulling the warp beam out of the frame on one side.

Kitchen towels on an 8 shaft loom. Warp is 8/2 cotton in blocks of natural light and light grey, with two sets of black and natural stripes off set on each side. Warp is 8/2 cotton alternating teal and light grey in sections and honey and light grey in other sections. Pattern is Bauhaus towels from Handwoven.

A buff colored cat tests the strength of the front apron of the loom, peeking over the edge of the tan fabric.

It's a great feeling to know I put this all back together properly. I have one more set of "this could be better" improvements for the loom, if I can figure something out, but it definitely works like this! (Left side treadles require oomph+ to get a decent shed.)

Weavers, what's the shortest length of warp you're willing to work with on your floor loom?

My test warp for my floor loom is only a little over 2.5 yards long (2 towels worth), and this seems a little silly now as I'm threading the heddles.

An orange cat is tangled in 1/4" rope, next to a floor loom.

She's evidently helping me attach my lease sticks.

Also, I find myself both excited and nervous about this next step, dressing the loom for the first time. We'll see if I got everything rebuilt properly!

2 weeks later, and she's all back together! Cleaned, waxed, metal bits de-rusted and then sealed, new aprons, new brake, old cords replaced with texsolv. Building a raddle and installing the new brake tomorrow, and then I'll take her for a test drive.

Front cloth beam with a tan apron rolled on it. The beams received a good cleaning and waxing, then I made new aprons for then. The metal bars have been de-rusted, sanded, and clear coated.

Does over vs. under matter for aprons, as long as it advances in the correct direction? I attached this one first and then realized they typically go under. I can't just flip it without drilling new holes on the beams ends.

The bare frame of an 8 shaft loom, with all pieces removed for cleaning.

She was a dirty dirty girl. Frame was 1.5 t-shirts worth of dirty, and that was after a vacuum and swiffer dusting. I'm trying to decide if I sand off some paint transfer marks, or if I just consider them part of the loom's history. Also, the cats are much less interested now.

An 8 shaft counterbalance loom in cherry.

She has arrived! She needs a good cleaning, a large amount of texsolv cord, one bolt, and .... a brake cable. Everything else appears to be here! For $450!

Oh. And to be moved down into my craft space, but the back beam has to come off for that to happen.

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new-to-me 8S CB loom this week.

Any tips on best way to set myself up for success with a used loom? Any must-have tools for floor looms? Any favorite shops in the US you love for loom supplies? (Every "cord"-type part needs replaced.)

Blue and green twill with alternating stripes, tied to a LeClerc 4 shaft loom

Got a new project on my loom faster than ever before, because I finally decided to put my warp board on a wall! Making a Monsters Inc poncho for my boyfriend :3 Mike Wazowski green and Sully Blue in a simple twill pattern. I even remembered to hemstitch this time

Twill weave

From the Stickler book #248 using Brassard 8/2 on my table loom with 12 reed, 2 ends per dent. This will be a kitchen towel in purple and lime green.

I installed the Ashford shuttle race and I am loving it.
