The precursor of destruction: reflections on constructions that encourage weakness, rely on bleakness rather than liberated fire. I find a liar in desire that rages only inside the lines, the pages and pages of nothing divine. A productive vine without any buds. A tongue that screams only in thuds. This poet’s notes. What are the words these dull hands wrote; just gimcrack jingles sending tingles into all that lacks? Finding the crack and slathering it in paint. Here it go, making new complaints and again predicting my own demise in royal teams of bold faced lies, and loyal schemes of old self-doubt. Let the fire out. Get the liar out. Know what this life is about. Feel it, don’t steal it. Between fun and life live dreams. Nothing is ever quite as it seems.

On Becoming I was a wildfire once, feeding on bad love and bitter medicine, torching every bridge I could find. Mistaking rebellion for breath; survival dressed as motion. I used to fear those older selves. The girl who was all teeth and temper, the one who chose wrong doors just to hear the hinges scream. But they were precursors. Each one a necessary bruise, a dark stitch in the fabric. I don’t regret them. Regret is for stories that end, for fires that leave only ash. Mine didn’t. I am the heat that remains. Built from the missteps, tempered by the flaws, shaky ground, bound tight by roots a base for something strong to grow.
