A swan-shaped Venus-trap boat statue that symbolises the horrors of purity culture when it comes to girlhood.
The swan represents the purity itself, which became the name of this statue, the innocence that was expected from the girls from birth to death. An expectation of women and girls staying pure, which eventually leads them to being preyed on by predators.
The Venus-trap represents femininity, an idea that scares mostly religious people when their daughters grow up. When they hit puberty, people act like they became adults overnight. This is a predatory mindset that hurts, manipulates and shames women and girls to be hidden while praises men and boys.
The boat represents girlhood, meaning that not all but most girls have experienced discrimination, shamed because of buying pads/tampons, forced into taking birth control and some even got murdered for honour killings. This project is an amalgamation of misogyny girls have to face the abuse and the hypocrisy when it comes to puberty. I experienced this when I was younger and it haunts me to this day.

"Mother,
Why do people stare at me?
They’re treating me differently than back then.
I’m the same person I should be.
I was 10... I was 10..."
