WOW!! ☄️
The #Quadrantids #meteor shower is active now and SkyCam caught this large one. The sound at the end is either the meteor or the wind as it was getting windy at that time.
Normal speed then slow motion.

A yellow Quadrantid meteor passing through Ursa Major at 00:15 UT on 4 January 2026. The meteor is just to the right of the handle of the 'Plough' asterism that forms part of Ursa Major. The twin stars Mizar and Alcor can be seen above left of the meteor. The sky is a blueish colour due to light from the full Moon. There some trees in the foreground. Shot taken with a Canon 250D DSLR and 16mm lens at 6s exp, 16mm fl, f/2.8, ISO-400.

Captured this nice #Quadrantid meteor last night. It passed through Ursa Major at 00:15 UT. I caught it visually too and it was the best of the night. I estimated it at mag -4 and yellow in colour. #Quadrantids #Astronomy #Astrophotography

Rather successful night of #Quadrantids observing last night, despite the full Moon and icy weather. Got to see and photograph quite a few.

My favorite fact about the year's 1st meteor shower is that it is named after an obsolete constellation!

Quadrans Muralis (the wall-mounted quadrant) was proposed by Jérôme Lalande in 1795 and was well-established when the #Quadrantids received their name in the late 1830s.

Only problem? The glowing moon will outshine most of the #Quadrantids meteor shower that peaks tonight. 🤷 #FullWolfMoon

The #Quadrantids meteor shower peaks tomorrow evening, 3 January. The narrow peak lasts around 6 hours centred on 21:00 UT. Despite the full Moon this year, you could still see around 10 per hour with clear skies. Observe as soon as it gets dark and you should see some. #Astronomy

A breathtaking winter nightscape featuring the Quadrantid meteor shower streaking across the sky, seemingly emanating from a single point (radiant). The parallel meteor trails are caused by Earth passing through a dust stream shed by a space rock. The image shows the constellation Orion prominently, including the unusually dim star Betelgeuse, in a snowy Slovakian landscape.

Original Astro-photography by Geneva Poteet of Real Nature Magic. This image is of the Moon, almost full shining through some clouds that look white against the night sky. The wizened silhouettes of elms creep into the visage at the bottom. You can see a red planet Mars, on the left with two other fainter stars; Castor + Pollux of the Gemini constellation. There is a ring of light around the moon, and cloudy wisps texture the sky.

30-min. of today’s peak Quadrantids meteor shower. Using bistatic VHF CW radar, ionization trail reflections can be received day, night, through clouds. Spectral signatures of various shapes received from 80 to 120km altitude within the small volume of sky under observation.
