Meteor shower and supermoon soon to collide in Colorado skies A meteor shower is set to peak above Colorado over upcoming days, and during ideal conditions, it’s a meteor shower that’s been known to send as many as 60 to 200 meteors per hour across the night sky...

OK radio geeks, a golden opportunity to show how meteor scatter detection works. @hackadayofficial.bsky.social #ShortWave #HamRadio #MeteorScatter #Quadrantids

Meanwhile, Virgo suggests I should aim my antenna at 300deg or 120deg for #Perseids #meteorscatter, while Rocacorba & SE France are at more like 240deg azimuth. So WTF?

I may have just heard a meteor train(?) all the way from Spain on FM 😮

Spanish talk on 94.5, poss. same better 93.3. The latter would match RNE Radio Nacional via Rocacorba

I think I later heard the same guy on 15520 SW, but earlier tried MW & got nothing

#fmdx #Perseids #meteorscatter @ 1914km 🤯

We the #FMDX'ers & VHF amateur radio operators will be looking for each such Elonlink satellite failure with great ̶s̶a̶d̶n̶e̶s̶s̶ amusement 🌠📡🎡 #meteorscatter

🚨 Did you know? Ham radio isn't just about chatting—it's cosmic! 🌌📡 Amateur radio operators can *detect meteor trails* by analyzing how VHF signals bounce off ionized particles left by meteoroids entering Earth's atmosphere! 🔥 #HamRadio #AmateurRadio #MeteorScatter #VHF 👨‍🚀

... and since the weather had been so miserable I decided to try some #meteorscatter on UHF.
At 432MHz, MS its more difficult the EME nowadays! Managed to QSO with SM6FHZ at 1044km and OK1TEH at 1439km. Took 2h 5m to complete with 6FHZ and 1h 35m for 1TEH!😮

Finally completed my first meteor scatter contact during the Geminids peak, using 100W and a home made Moxon for 6m via MSK144. Seattle to Reno: just over 900km.

Screenshot of the Virgo app. It shows where the meteor storms are originating from in the sky. At this time it shows the Geminids setting in the NW. The compass dial is showing lines indicating where to aim the antenna, SW or NE in this case for the Geminids.

To find out where to look in the sky for meteors, or where to aim your beam for #MeteorScatter, try the old Virgo app (Windows and Linux) maintained by DB1BM and DL8AAU:

www.dl1dbc.net/Meteorscatte...

You do have to enter your grid every time you start it, unfortunately.

That was a nice reflection on 93.0 MHz and multiple adjacent frequencies. Some sort of classical music channel. #perseids #meteorscatter
