A unique no doubt one of a kind vintage 1960s 70s signed handmade repoussé copper on wood original artwork of a serious woman. This is one of two artworks in copper repoussé by the same artist that I am listing today, the other is of an equally serious or thoughtful man. I'm listing them separately because I think they both stand on their own as artworks, and as examples of the fine art of copper metalworking! Both artworks are worked from behind (copper repoussé) along with chasing at front to add further details, and then the recesses created have been oxidized (black) for contrast with the shiny sections of the metal. The metal was given some kind of coating at back, probably plaster, to support the raised sections and prevent them from being dented, and this plaster coating has dried over the years, and is somewhat loose and rattles a bit when you move the artwork. The metal was then laid on a solid oak board and attached with brass nails or tacks. Measures 16" tall by 10" wide by about 1" deep at outer edges of the board backing. Marked in the bottom right corner at front with conjoined "MR" artist mark as shown. No further information available about the artist at this time. Generally excellent vintage condition with fine wear to both the copper and the wood, but no damage or detractors whatsoever.
