An important rectangular covered censer resting on four feet, painted on copper in famille rose enamels on a blue ground, decorated in an archaistic style with taotie masks and lotus flowers, framed by ruyi motifs and key-fret borders. The openwork cover is topped with a gilt-bronze seated Buddhist lion, its left front paw resting on a ball. On the underside, a four-character Qianlong mark inscribed within a square. China Qianlong period (1736-1795) (Some old restorations). H: 58 cm - L: 33 cm - D: 23 cm.

I’ve seen the first few episodes - but perhaps because I came to it after #Empresses & #Yanxi (& so had already had my fill of harem stories), it didn’t immediately grab me - plus I’ve read #Ruyi is the bleakest of the 3

Yes! #Empresses is the OG of palace dramas, with #Yanxi (and possibly #Ruyi, though I haven’t seen it yet) a close second
Another one to check out is #LegendofLuZhen (with Zhao Liying as the fl) - it’s not at the same level as these, but it’s still worth a watch for palace drama aficionados
Personally I would recommend #StoryofYanxiPalace over #Ruyi
The story of #Yanxi is energetic & engaging, and the fl is stronger and more decisive than the fl in #Ruyi (from what I’ve heard, because I haven’t seen #Ruyi)
But if you want a Chinese version of P&P, don’t watch either 😅
However, #Ruyi is by all accounts an excellent drama, so you could just follow the recommendation and try watching it anyway.
But think of it more through the prism of a FL dealing with a vicious harem environment, in which romance is in tension with issues of court politics and power.
