Zucchini "Dubya" with blossoms. Dubya is parthenocarpic, meaning it doesn't require male pollen to make squashes. The male flowers seem a bit malformed too. Just to boost things a bit, I did transfer sone pollen.
Red Kuri squash vines in bloom, tied to bamboo & clothesline trellis. They didn't have male flowers, so I used male flowers from Galeux for pollination. nIt's fine to do that, so long as you are not trying to save seeds. Or if you want intentional hybrids.
Red Kuri only develop to maybe 3-5#, so this trellis should be able to handle that.
Yellow straightneck summer squash, a bush type. No male flowers yet, so I pollinated with flowers from Dubja. I don't know if that will help but I I think so. I'm really looking forward to these.
A big growing, big vining winter squash vine. Galeux d'Eysines. This one is way to big for trellis, so I'm letting it roam around. Blooming now, plenty of time to make some impressive squashes this summer. This is a really productive, delicious heirloom variety that thrives in my climate.
Today I tied smaller winter squash vines to their trellis. I artificially pollinated the female winter squash blossoms, with pollen from the male squash blossoms. Similar with summer squashes too. See alt text for details. 🌱 #gardening #squashes
