My cross-vendor ARM audio library is starting to do very synth-y things! Stay tuned for lots more on this front 👀 #synthsky #synthdiy #arm #embedded #dsp
Does anyone happen to know whether Bernie Hutchins of Electronotes fame is still around?
I'd like to buy his "everything" package, but his web page has a notice from 2020 that he's not taking orders.

I started reverse-engineering the Korg 800 DV synth last year in may. It took many hours to figure it out the main oscillator PCB but it's finally done and ordered. Two more boards to go!

My first very own #eurorack module: an extremely simple diode-based overdrive effect. Shockingly it actually works as intended, but since I ordered the pcb, I already made a couple of improvements. V2 will be a cleaner version of the same thing, and v3 will […]

A appear to have created a "sound card" for a 4-bit CPU.
As you do.

Second exercise in in PCB design with #Kicad: a super simple #eurorack overdrive module (non-inverting soft clipper using LEDs). Essential features missing (gain) and probably tons of obvious mistakes but it's my first complete module. #synthdiy #electronicsDIY

Close up of lower bottom Gatekeeper PCB showing the Sound Byte Labs logo
Shot of the bottom of the Gatekeeper PCB
First power of the Gatekeeper prototype did not result in any obvious shorts or heating! Additional testing and first firmware dump later today! Excuse my awful hand soldering 💀 #synthdiy

Photo of the described stripboard
What’s the point of strip boards that have copper only in every second row? #electronics #synthdiy
I feel like the Gatekeeper module needs one more output, which is just a normally open direct connection to the CV input, controlled by the gate button. This seems obvious in retrospect 🤔 #synthdiy #modular
A prototype red PCB with grey 3d printed piano keys on attached to mechanical keyboard switches. Writing on the side says it is an amazing 11-key 31-TET demo board!
Making progress on key designs. Still many miles to go before I sleep.

A red PCB with text on the face explaining that this is an 11-key demo version of a 31-TET keyboard. Only a few unsoldered components like a jack and Cherry MX Red switch can be seen on the board.
Two PCBs next to each other. The one on the left has writing on it, the one on the right is titled the "Tactile Switch Velocity Array (Experimental)" and is populated with 11 tactile switches.
Another step in my quest for a 31-TET keyboard. These are the first self-designed PCBs I've had manufactured. Still loads to do!

A breast board with +5V power connected and an oscillator. And in front a few more oscillators. The oscillators are 1Mhz, 4MHz, and 8MHz.
Hopefully I’ll be on time now… #diyelectronics #synthdiy
shoutout to when i built this phaser and accidentally turned one of the stages into a ridiculous fuzz and it sounded sick. need to put this on a switch #synthDIY #nonlinearCircuits #harshNoise
A couple of breadboards with some small speakers on an oak table
Another synth module is coming together. This’ll be a mono synth based on the SN76489AN sound chip with a Korg (late) MS20 voltage controlled filter. #synthdiy #modular #eurorack
Buffered mults are deeeeecent. But what you really want is your output to passively drive multiple inputs. That's the good stuff right there 🤗 #synthdiy #modular
Here's that synth project, (running on bench power for now)
Its a utility rack for ms20 style synths, with a sequencer, fuzz +
The analog sequencer has a +5 to-5v range to match the synth. Its designed to be very small, but still fast to dial in

TIL the hard lesson of not enabling the watchdog timer until the boot sequence is finished 😔 One more brick for the pile! #synthdiy #firmware

#hagiwo #modularsynth #synthdiy #eurorack How frustrating. The #Arduino Nanos that I’m using (three varieties) don’t work in MacOS or Ubuntu. Old IDE doesn’t fix it. Reinstalling CH34n drivers either doesn’t work — can’t compile or it gives no feedback whether it’s really installed with their […]
A Eurorack modular synth delay module. It has yellow knobs with white indices, and is painted black with white icons and lines. It sits aesthetically between “engineered by hand” and “mass produced”, landing somewhere at “played like an instrument by the only engineer who uses it”.
The two circuit boards for the module. The knowledgeable and sharp-eyed might notice some part swaps for those I had in stock.
Ok, at least I got the soldering done (though I’ve marked a lot of places I’m suspicious of on the board) and I got the faceplate done on this #hagiwo #modularsynth
#synthdiy #eurorack module.
But this module uses an #Arduino Nano and I can’t get any of […]

fully assembled Q&H module with black panel, 4HP, CV input/output, scale mode selector with CV, transpose control with CV, input for trigger, gate output on voltage change
Another synth module is in the making. This time it's a quantize and hold module with controls for scale and transposing pitch. Besides a continuous mode the output can also be updated by a trigger. It's based on an Arduino and some DAC, the software will be […]
