Hemiceratoides hieroglyphica is a cute lil brown moth seemingly from a magic realism novel.

It gently lands on sleeping birds in Madagascar and extends its long, sharp tongue under their eyelids to drink their salty tears.

Ohhh for #PiDay i just got the firmware for the Mothbox optimized enough that you can use a #pi 5 2GB instead of a 4GB to take huge 64mp photos!

With the current RAM crisis, this will directly save ~$20 on EVERY BUILD! (plus might save a tiny bit more energy?)

This past week's moth in #YearOfTheMoth is the VAMPIRE MOTH!

It has a sharp snout for drinking juice from fruits, but males evolved to suck mammal blood to collect salt which they then give to females through their sperm! #sciArt

Probably the most charismatic of all popular moths, its the only moth to ever be featured on a US postal stamp!

(Also just landed in Barcelona and got vegan tapas!)

Other countries might be all like, "you can't just declare 2026 #YearOfTheMoth, Andy"

But New Zealand knows what's up!

My first contribution to #YearOfTheMoth
White Witch (Thysania agrippina)

Merian documented this moth 300 years ago, but actually got some features wrong! Despite it being the WIDEST INSECT ON EARTH, we don't know its host plant or eggs, and only verified its larva last year! I updated her drawing!
