It gently lands on sleeping birds in Madagascar and extends its long, sharp tongue under their eyelids to drink their salty tears.

It has a sharp snout for drinking juice from fruits, but males evolved to suck mammal blood to collect salt which they then give to females through their sperm! #sciArt

Probably the most charismatic of all popular moths, its the only moth to ever be featured on a US postal stamp!

Merian documented this moth 300 years ago, but actually got some features wrong! Despite it being the WIDEST INSECT ON EARTH, we don't know its host plant or eggs, and only verified its larva last year! I updated her drawing!
