91) Food Addiction- How it Started The evolution of food consumption has deeply affected human health and society. Early humans thrived on raw and foraged foods until cooking and agriculture emerged, leading to an increase in population but poorer health. Specialization and a token economy created inequalities. Today, this history contributes to widespread food addiction and obesity crisis.

Spare time and big brains lead to innovation. We start to grow food, notice patterns, and actively domesticate food crops. #foodaddiction #foodproduction #slavery #survival

92) Food Addiction – Ultra Processed Food The content discusses the evolution of food processing, emphasizing the adverse effects of ultra-processed foods in America. It critiques the FDA's reliance on food companies' claims about safety and explores the rise of food addiction. The author calls for critical thinking about food choices and societal norms surrounding food consumption.

The Industrial Revolution also birthed the rise of Fast Food, as we continued to specialize, leaving less time for food preparation, and contributing to the loss of cultural food knowledge (knowing how to cook dinner). #cooking #food #foodaddiction #survivor #foodaddict

How The Great "FAT-FREE" Lie of The 90s Hooked a Generation - The SnackWell's Effect Remember the 90s? When we thought we could eat an entire box of "fat-free" SnackWell's cookies and it was healthy? What if that wasn't an accident? What if it was one of the most brilliant and damaging feats of consumer psychology ever pulled off by the ultra-processed food industry? This is the deep dive into the "SnackWell's Effect," a phenomenon that hooked a generation. We expose the dangerous psychological glitches that food marketers exploit to this day, including: The Health Halo Effect: The cognitive trap that makes you believe a "low-fat" label on a box of sugar makes the entire product healthy. The Self-Licensing Effect: The sneaky voice in your head that says, "I had a salad for lunch, so I deserve this entire pint of ice cream." We'll show you how this mental loophole is systematically weaponized against you. But it gets deeper. We'll reveal the playbook of modern food advertising and how it manipulates your deepest emotions—linking processed foods to happiness, love, and comfort—to foster food addiction behaviors. This isn't just about the past; it's about the "guilt-free" lies still filling your grocery cart today. This isn't a lecture on dieting. This is a guide to reclaiming your brain from the marketing machine. Ready to see behind the curtain of the grocery aisle? Hit play, subscribe, and share this with anyone who's ever felt guilty after eating a "guilt-free" snack.

Episode 59 - Food Feelings and Finding Balance Episode 59 - Food Feelings and Finding Balance Food is one of the most socially acceptable ways pastors medicate their pain. Nobody questions you when you go back for another plate at the potluck, but for many of us, food has become the comfort we reach for instead of God. In this episode, I open up about my own story of gaining weight later in life, battling cravings for ice cream and baked goods, and struggling to keep consistent with exercise. We’ll talk about why food is such a powerful temptation, how stress and medication can add to the struggle, and why food addiction is uniquely difficult in recovery circles. You’ll also hear relatable stories about pastors: - A potluck that turns into pressure to overeat. - A late-night drive-thru run after a stressful meeting. - A traveling pastor hiding behind “conference calories don’t count.” - And a young pastor using Pop-Tarts and sugar as a substitute for deeper temptations. But more importantly, we’ll look to God’s Word for hope. Scriptures remind us that the Holy Spirit is our true Comforter (John 14:16–17), that God always provides a way out of temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13), and that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). This isn’t about perfection or six-pack abs. It’s about honesty, progress, and surrender. If you’ve ever used food as medication, you’re not alone — and God has a plan for your body, your health, and your recovery. 👉 Reflection Question: What role does food play in your recovery story — and what step could you take this week to invite God into it?  🔗 Links - Email: - YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@pastorsinrecovery - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pastorsinrecovery
