Bathyphantes nigrinus, tiny spider from leaf litter.

“Bathys” means deep in Greek, and “phantes” refers to appearing. In a bit of a mystical way since both “phantom” and “fantasy” arise from that word.

So Bathyphantes spiders emerge from the deep. #linyphiidae #spidermacro

Well, there's cephalic modification and there's cephaplic modification, but I've never seen anything as crazy as this outside the #Linyphiidae.

Close-up macro photograph of a Linyphia triangularis, a small sheet weaver spider from the family Linyphiidae. The spider is perched in its fine, tangled web against a dark background. Its long, slender legs are pale yellow-green, with joints slightly darker in tone. The abdomen is oval and patterned with a pale cream base marked by darker brown bands and patches, giving it a marbled look. The cephalothorax is light brown with darker markings and small black eyes visible near the front. The spider’s fangs and mouthparts are bright orange, contrasting with the rest of its body. The web glistens faintly in the light, showing delicate geometric strands and tiny specks of dust or pollen clinging to the silk, all set against the soft, dark blur of the background.

Learning the spiders of the UK for Halloween season! This Linyphia triangularis (correct me if wrong) was beautifully posed in its delicate web on a cool day.

Monday Spider. Oedothorax gibbosus likes to do things a bit differently. While most dwarf spiders hunt with a sheet web, O. gibbosus runs down its prey.

This handsome male is about 2mm long. #linyphiidae #SpiderSky

Monday Spider: Tapinocyba insecta, minibeast of boreal forests. This male is less than 2mm in length!

Note the sulci, seen as slits between the lateral eyes. That’s where this gentleman oozes sweet perfume for lady-spoods to love.

The same spider species moves across its web, legs splayed outward. The abdomen's reflective white markings contrast sharply against its dark brown body. Numerous tiny insect carcasses and delicate seed filaments dot the web.

Spiders like Frontinella pyramitela (Linyphiidae) are sharp. Invertebrates can show behaviors we usually link to vertebrates. Rodríguez & Gloudeman 2011 found these spiders remember where, maybe what, and how old each prey item is. doi.org/10.1007/s10071-011-0402-9
