This is a major advance, as the authors note that "other intranasal recombinant H5 flu vaccines have not achieved [this] in clinical trials."

Using non-transgenic WT larvae, we validated that IEC damage is NTR-dependent. We observed hallmark responses like macrophage accumulation and igfbp1a induction by damaged IECs, confirming the potential of identifying biologically relevant targets of #mucosal #healing.

Joining us from @cugastrohep.bsky.social in Denver is Dr. @dunnimmunolab.bsky.social! Her lab zooms in on #eosinophils - how they specialize in different environments, interact with #epithelium and #fibroblasts in #mucosal tissue, and "re-specialize" in tissue repair.
This was in Syrian hamsters. I studied #mucosal #immunity for 2 years during my fellowship. I'm glad that they are doing Phase 1 #ClinicalTrials, but there is a very long way to go before anything is approved.
