“Hi stranger.” Koh’a turned at the familiar voice and phrase, eyes locking onto someone he didn’t expect to see: Naoh. Koh’a didn’t say anything, just stared. It was rare for someone from his tribe to be this far out of the Shroud and as his face furrowed into concern at the thought, Naoh continued. “I’m not hurt, if that’s what you’re asking.” Tension left the other Keeper’s shoulders. “Then why are you here?” His tone was flat, but a cautious edge crept in in the end. “I think you know why.” Naoh gave him a small look that bordered on pity, before downcasting her eyes. Koh’a looked away too, his jaw clicking audibly in discomfort. “I’ll come back when I’m ready.” “It’s been three moons, Koh’a.” Koh’a didn’t look back as Naoh spoke. “They’ve noticed.” “So they’ve sent you here to… what? Entice me?” Koh’a’s eyes shot back with a venomous glare. Naoh didn’t quite meet his gaze. “I didn’t agree to anything but to come find you.”
Koh’a continued to stare at the other Keeper. “I’m not a dog they can just snap their fingers at and I’ll come running. This is exactly why I didn’t come back in the first place.” Naoh reached a hand out and placed it on Koh’a’s arm, her eyes finally meeting his. “Don’t come back. Just because I am bound to our tribe’s duty doesn’t mean you have to be.” A wistful smile pulled up on her face. “You are bound for greater things, Keeper. I will raise our kits to hopefully be just as good as you one day.” The anger that had etched its way into Koh’a’s face melted slightly. There was a long pause as the two Keepers just looked at each other again. Then Koh’a reached for Naoh’s face and pressed a very gentle kiss to her forehead. “You should leave, travel with me.” “Don’t get soft on me now, Keeper.” Naoh’s tone was humorous even though her eyes quickly got slick with tears. “One day.” Her voice dropped to nearly a whisper. “They were right to send you.” Koh’a’s voice deepened with emotions. “I miss seeing you, Naoh.” Naoh looked up at him, a tear running down her face. “Stop that. I’m not going to be the reason you get held back, Koh’a.”
Koh’a absentmindedly wiped the tear away. “I know. You’re… familiar and I miss that comfort. But I don’t miss home.” “Good.” Naoh took a moment and steeled herself. “Let this be the last time I see you for a long while, Keeper.” Koh’a gave a soft smile. “Till next time, Naoh.” A bright, but still slightly teary smile pulled up on Naoh’s face. “Till next time, stranger.”
I have so many thoughts about Koh'a's backstory and Naoh is one of them. Honestly, Keeper lore and how Koh'a doesn't fit in the mold is so *chef's kiss*
