In the video game, LA Noire, #OddManOut is on the marquee of the RKO theater as you drive by it. It’s also one of 50 film canisters strewn around the pretty accurate city layout…all named after classic Noir films.

This movie is too good for Johnny to be a straightforward Christ metaphor. But it uses cultural biblical allusions skilfully, to wring every last bit of pathos out for its contemporary audience. I haven't been an altar boy for 50y and I get it.

It could be simple realism: laces could have been dear.
