I have a set of feeders in my backyard, so the little feather floofs come to me. It's been interesting to see what comes by. I'm also part of Cornell University's #ProjectFeederWatch, counting how many of these little ones show up on a weekend. So in some sense, I'm doing some science to help birds!

We make a bark butter that all the birds go nuts for, and the suet feeders are right at my front window, so we have a great view of the competition as we do our birdcount for #ProjectFeederWatch. The poor mourning doves are always on the menu for the Sharp-Shinned and Cooper's hawks that do flybys.

Today is #BirdFeedingDay!
Also the start of #NationalBirdFeedingMonth. I’ve been part of #ProjectFeederwatch for 10 years. I’ve counted over 30 #bird species in our #Vancouver yard & recorded them through #BirdsCanada & #CornellLabofOrnithology.
The birds featured here are just a few of them.

Today is #NationalBirdDay! The 4 birds featured here – Steller’s jay, downy woodpecker, Anna’s hummingbird, & red breasted nuthatch – were just 4 of the species I saw while doing my bird count for #ProjectFeederwatch today.

The cold weather has brought lots of birds to the feeders and birdbaths. House sparrows were enjoying spa baths yesterday, but most birds are happy getting a drink. #birds #maryland #projectfeederwatch

There were lots of reports of Broad-winged Hawks flying over Chicagoland yesterday. This morning an adult Broad-winged Hawk landed on our back fence, then flew to an alley wire. The hawk was not a first for our backyard, but it was a first for a #ProjectFeederWatch day at our count site.

A Sharp-shinned Hawk gives a fierce, slightly judgmental stare straight at the camera. Its sharp gray feathers are crisp in the foreground, with a soft, wintry blur of snow and trees behind—clearly not amused to have missed out on its lunch.

Sharpie in the hood! 🪶

This bird has been drawn to the feeders to the great dismay all other yard birds both large and small.

Three Common Grackles perched on the top of a bird feeder during a snowfall. The birds have glossy black feathers with iridescent blue heads, and their bright yellow eyes stand out. One bird on the left has its wings and tail slightly spread as it makes its characteristic readle-eak call.

I could not be happier to welcome back all the glorious blackbirds!

Grackles have a pretty bad rep — they’re big, they’re noisy, they chase off smaller species, but dang they are fun to watch.

There has been high drama at the feeders since their return! 🪶

As a twenty-year #ProjectFeederWatch participant and supporter of #BirdsCanada, the importance of helping our feathered friends has never been greater, especially with bird flu popping up everywhere.

My feeders have been pretty quiet this winter. The best days are when big flocks of American Goldfinches pay a visit #ProjectFeederWatch

The doctor demanded I get some rest. So, I found the only activity beyond napping and TV that I find comfort in... watching nature. At least I can gather data for #projectfeederwatch.

This Downy Woodpecker took a while to locate the suit. Of course, my squirrels are always checking up on me.
