Many thanks! I'd be happy, though, if folks just started paying a little attention. As my mom always says, "If you don't vote, you can't complain!" #SFWA

I have it on good authority that most #SFWA members leave their Nebula voting to the last minute ;) If you're one of them, I hope you'll keep my story, "For the Rectitude of Our Intentions," in mind in the Best Short Story category. You can read it here: calendaroffools.com/stories/for-...

I was just reminded this morning that my poem, “age of villains,” is eligible for the Nebula Award this year! If you’re a member of SFWA please consider nominating it. TODAY is the last day to nominate. Thank you for your consideration!

If you happen to be filling out your Nebula ballot tonight or tomorrow, I just wanted to squee one more time about a story I’m super proud of. “Six People to Revise You” is one of my favorite things I’ve written. #nebulas #sfwa

Elise Stephens -- Suspension Content warning: Miscarriage and depression If the proper balance of sorrow (tears) and hope (blood) are mixed in the correct quantity and potency, then for one hour the donor may glimpse the lost ...

Friends in the #SFWA community: there are a few more days to submit Nebula nominations and I'd be grateful for your consideration of "Suspension." It's a flash piece and a very quick (and emotionally intense) read. Thank you! www.thecosmicbackground.com/stories/elis...

Cover shows a figure in space suit confronts another figure standing on/riding a giant multi limbed tentacle octopus type monster amalgam of organic and tech. The monster floats above building wreckage and in front of a cloudy/smoky sky.

..understand where you are now.

The last board I was on ate my life, but I was the president (chair) with no paid staff, and I'd like not to do that again. "As much as it takes," I'll say, with the understanding that I'll be looking for time saves and better process.

I know we've all got a lot of issues with everyone and everything, but my book is on the Nebulas Recommended Reading List and that's pretty boss, actually.

Really bummed to see so many people jump right onto shitting on #SFWA new reading list. It's been "live" less than 12 hours. Is in soft launch so the 1 volunteer working on it can make fixes.

Yes "WHAT THE FUCK AM I LOOKING AT!?"

Some folks take themselves WAY too seriously.

Must Read Changes Contract Language Must Read Magazines has announced in a press release that it has revised the boilerplate language in writers’ contracts for Analog, Asimov’s, and F&SF. They say that the new changes…

I have to admit, I was pretty skeptical that MRM would ever budge on this. Good on @sfwa.org for continuing to press the issue. Proof will be in the pudding, but this feels like a good, if belated, first step.

None of the offered responses really encompass my stance. I am against generative AI due to piracy and its enormous environmental issues. Additionally, there is already data available from studies that show leaning on AI for research / information purposes reduces a person's ability to think critically i.e., interrogate the information presented. If things continue as they are, we are likely to have swaths of people whose ability to identify propaganda or spin will be diminished (at the very least).

I do not consider spellcheck or translation services an issue. However, saying I have no issue with non-generative AI is too broad a statement. I take a default opt-in policy. If it can be shown that it does no harm, and that it provides value, then I am fine with the tool. Looking for cancer cells? Sure. Other uses that show actual usefulness to individuals (rather than a profitmaking tool at the expense of individuals)? Okay.

However, I think AI is being pushed down our throats across the board both in software and from a marketing perspective.

Focusing solely on generative AI, it is a tool built on piracy looking for any broad commercial uses so that the owners of the technology can make back the enormous amounts of money they have invested.

It is the antithesis of a tool intended to support individuals and individual creatives.

I just filled out the #sfwa survey on AI. I encourage all SFWA folk to do the same. Part of my response below. #NoAI

The email I just sent SFWA’s board Earlier today, SFWA made two announcements about the upcoming Nebula Awards. The first included this wording: Works that used LLMs at any point during the writing process must disclose this upon acceptance of the nomination, and the nature of the technology’s use will be made clear to voters on the final ballot. Needless to say, […]
