A large, old stump, well rotted, on the forest floor. The wood is reddish, crumbling, covered with patches of various lichens. On top, there's moss. And on the sides and top, the stump supports evergreen salal bushes, huckleberry bushes, and several hemlock saplings. Besides, unseen, a community of critters, spiders, etc. On either side and behind the stump there are the trunks of young Douglas-firs; thin, straight brown trunks. Greenery behind the stump is mostly salal; in front, it's moss.
Old stump, still hard at work. New blog post: wanderinweeta.blogspot.com/2026/02/gran... #VancouverIsland #Stump #Trees #Forests #Moss #Mosstodon #Old-growthTrees #NaturePhotography
