New paper on #UK #children's diverse #family pathways using #sequenceanalysis on @usociety.bsky.social data shows:
* More than 25% of children do not grow up with biological parents
* Children of more educated, Asian, and migrant mothers tend to grow up with married parents

We characterized patterns of diabetes risk progression using #SequenceAnalysis and found evidence of 9 patterns including stable normoglycemia, 5 patterns of impaired fasting glucose that did not progress to diabetes, and 3 patterns of diabetes with onset at younger, middle, and older ages.

Abstract: This article presents the results of the “Jazz Alumni” survey conducted in 2022 on the career beginnings of the musicians who obtained a jazz master’s degree at HEMU—Haute école de musique in French-speaking Switzerland between 2011 and 2017. Based on a mixed-methods diachronic approach, the study included 45 graduates (38 men and 7 women). Like most performing artists, they experience professional instability and are faced with low incomes compared to their level of training. Our study indicates that jazz graduates predominantly rely on teaching to mitigate the risks associated with the precarious nature of their profession, thereby improving their working conditions and generally avoiding non-musical work. Further findings identify two distinct approaches to balancing teaching and performing. Possible explanations for these different career paths include socialization to different national regulatory regimes and gender inequalities.

#SequenceAnalysis is often used to create a typology of trajectories. This typology is then used in regressions to study the association between trajectories and covariates.

By doing so, sampling uncertainty, which affects both the typology and the regressions, is ignored.

Robustness assessment of regressions using cluster analysis typologies: a bootstrap procedure with application in state sequence analysis - BMC Medical Research Methodology Background In standard Sequence Analysis, similar trajectories are clustered together to create a typology of trajectories, which is then often used to evaluate the association between sequence patter...

A key article for the development of robust #SequenceAnalysis @seqanalysisassn.bsky.social

The new framework takes into account measurement error when creating a typology with cluster analysis and using it in subsequent analysis.

Happy to share a new paper, where I analyzed the interaction of conjugal and educational trajectories in Buenos Aires and Mexico City using #SequenceAnalysis. Young men and women did not usually combine roles of student and spouse throughout their #lifecourse. 📝 rppoblacion.uaemex.mx/article/view...
