A hand holding a patterned teacup with a tea bag labeled ‘Pukka: Feel New’ hanging over the side. The person is wearing beaded bracelets and rings, and has a small tattoo on their wrist. In the background, a large wall clock shows the time around 7:00 with a bookshelf filled with cookbooks and a vase beneath it. The image has a cool blue-toned filter.

Market Hall in Old Town Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England. Built in the 1680s. It is a red brick building with white blocks on the corners. It is two levels, with dark shingled roof and white cupola. The upper level is enclosed, with windows facing the street below. The lower level is open, with a row of arches allowing entry to where market stalls would have stood. There is a row of houses on the other side of the street, and another brick building visible to the left.
St. Mary’s Church, Battersea, London. The view is from the middle of the Thames. It’s a perpendicular church, built in the late 1700s. It is a brick building with a white portico and columns. It has a fairly tall, narrow spire with white blocks along its corners. Its steeple is dark and pointy. You can see a tall apartment building behind it, to the right, and some sort of industrial building to the left.
St. Margaret’s Church is a “redundant” church in Canterbury, England. The majority of the structure dates from the 14th century. It is stone and flint. The facade is dark, so white accents around the windows and along the corners really stand out. The picture was taken in 2023, and there are banners on the front of the building advertising a “Canterbury Tales” experience. There are also multicolored banners hanging overhead. People walk along the street in front of the building. A couple sits at a picnic table.
This building, the Truman Courthouse, once the official Jackson County Courthouse, in Independence, Missouri, is a neoclassical red brick building with contrasting beige blocks accenting corners. Doors and windows are framed in white, and a white cupola sits at the top. The original building was built in the 1830s, but has gone through many additions, changes, and renovations. The current building has not changed since 1933. It is named after President Harry S Truman, who had an office here. The photo includes the Truman statue in front of the building, as well as a couple of flagpoles, some buildings across the street, and an expanse of lawn where several people are sitting on the ground or in lawn chairs under a blue sky.
Quoins are those fancy corners on brick and stone buildings. It’s a word I use in Scrabble a lot, but also apparently take a lot of pictures of. I had trouble choosing! Here are some examples.

Monochrome photograph, vertical layout, a metal hand-gate with dove perched on the top. The scene is deeply peaceful and quiet; silhouette of cedar tree branch frames and weights the top of the image; a dirt path leads to the gate; beyond the closed gate is soft foggy light, trees, and a pond.

Allosaurus is displayed feeding on the carcass of an Apatosaurus, a scene that was inspired by a discovery of Allosaurus teeth near an Apatosaurus fossil’s vertebrae (and by grooves on the sauropod’s bones that may have been bite or claw marks from the 140-million-predator

Pure excitement of a group of elephants arriving at the waterhole, for a drink and a refreshing splash. A large elephant at the front of the group throws rusty colored dirt onto its back. The dust shower was so intense at times that one could barely see the elephants through it. A baby elephant is completely covered in wet mud. A large crocodile lounges peacefully with no concern for the elephants that could easily trample it. Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Elephants excitedly covering themselves in red dust/mud at a watering hole. A crocodile idly stretches out along the water edge, unconcerned.

A large, square, white 16th century mansion stands in green parkland. An open colonnade with white colomns runs from each side of the central two-storey block. Two curved stone staircases lead up to an open verandah in front of the house, with a white stone balustrade around it. The sky is bright but with heavy grey and white clouds passing overhead.
