Yesterday Elise found this little nest in one of my trousers hanging on the clothes horse min our polytunnel.
In just 2 days an industrious little bird had created a new nice warm home for herself.
Could it be a wren’s nest?

Enjoyed watching this little wren flying in and out of a gap between the rocks at Batsford Arboretum, seemingly carrying nesting material. A small moment, but a lovely one to watch in such a beautiful setting.

A watercolour painting I did over the weekend from a freehand sketch from last week - see earlier post. The background is muted greens, purples and blues with dark branches. In the foreground is a wren facing outward gripping a a blue/grey tree trunk with a split in the bark showing the inner brown bit of the trunk. The wren is brown with a white stripe over its eye and a barred pattern on its wings. Its tail feathers stand erect. Only one leg can be seen - the other leg is hidden from the viewer.
First time drawing/painting a Eurasian wren on A5 size cotton notepad. Small bird but powerful song! Experimented with desaturating the background.

I love #wren. It’s a good scripting language. But I also love types (like TS) and it would be really nice if someone would make a typed version of wren. Yes, just like JS and TS.

After the breeding season is complete, male Superb Fairy-wrens moult their breeding colours and adopt eclipse plumage. During the winter months the eclipse males lose all of their breeding colours except the blue tail. Here's one with a brown female.
