#ADHDacceptance Day 3:
Identification/Self-Discovery Story
For over a decade, I had been living the non-acceptance "I'm just quirky, tee-hee" autistic life. Then COVID, burnout, and unmasking.
When I stopped masking autism, the ADHD I'd been rawdoggging my whole life was painfully obvious. 1/2
#ADHDacceptance Day 1:
Introduction
I'm <redacted due to being a teacher with opinions on the internet> 🙋🏻♂️. Y'all can read a bio, but the short-short version is, I'm an 18-year AuDHD SpEd/Math teacher with two young, also autistic kids (one AuDHD). I like Magic, Minecraft, and Battletech.

Introducing the real two-headed giant!
October is both #ADHDacceptance month, moving the narrative for #ADHD beyond "awareness," and #Auctober, an alternative to April's misinformation-laden minefield for #ActuallyAutistic folks.
Let the infodumping commence!
Forgetting things doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re human.

No, you don’t need to earn rest.

#ADHD IS NOT becoming more common
"Lead researcher Dr Alex Martin said it was likely to be a case of under-diagnosis of the condition in the first place."
That is what we ourselves keep saying. There are a lot of adults around the world struggling, not being recognised as ADHDers.

We're just wired differently. #adhd #adhdacceptance #attentiondifferent
MYTH: ADHD is bad behavior.
TRUTH: It’s neurodevelopmental.
When we label ADHDers as "difficult," we miss what’s really going on: impulse control challenges, time blindness, executive function struggles.
Different ≠ defiant.

"You don’t need permission to be different."
Your difference is your strength. Be it, live it, love it.

They’re not “lazy” or “difficult.” They’re navigating a world that isn’t always designed for their brains. Let’s create spaces where they feel seen, supported, and celebrated. 🌍 #ADHDAcceptance
#ADHD isn't laziness. It's battling executive dysfunction, fighting the guilt, and finding a way to move forward anyway.

#ADHDacceptance Day 4:
Reactions to Identification
I was genuinely embarrassed by missing things in myself for decades that I would spot in a student within minutes. Like most late-ID’d folks, I had to reevaluate my life experiences through a new lens. Aaaaallll of Those Things weren’t my “fault.”

#ADHDacceptance Day 3:
My Identification/Discovery Story
Like many neurodivergent folks, I hit a point of burnout and MH crisis. As I began unmasking my autistic traits, I also discovered how tightly I had also been masking ADHD because I could physically *feel* my executive dysfunction straining.

#ADHDacceptance Day 2:
What I love about being an ADHDer is...
"Letting the dog off the leash."
The near-manic high from intense focus on a preferred activity or absolute lack of inhibition when geeking out with other neurodivergent folks feels like a humming nuclear reactor inside me.
#ADHDacceptance Day 31:
Acceptance Means...
Understand that most of what you know about any differences in humanity, from race to gender to neurotype to disability are misinformation from those in power...
Then believe in HUMAN experiences and needs without judgement.
Different =/= inferior.
#ADHDacceptance Day 30:
Hyperfocus
ADHD is not a cognitive or learning disability, nor is it care or motivation.
Think of our brains as drag racers, designed to do The Thing very well. When we have a high-stimulus preferred task (brain chooses, not us), the resultant overdrive is called hyperfocus.
#ADHDacceptance Day 28:
Favorite Memes
It took years to realize that my folders of hundreds of memes and gifs was a self-accommodation emotive communication tool, so I'll stick to primarily ADHD-related memes here.
(Also, although I have contradicting ideas about age, censorship upholds status quo)
#ADHDacceptance Day 28
Dealing With Boredom
The same as another person might need an inhaler or insulin, I always ensure I have something with to keep my hands and mind occupied like fidgets & a small notepad.
For an ADHDer, unaddressed boredom is almost physically painful, like yanking on nerves.
