Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value is a gem. A slow burn family drama with meta meta moments. A film. Stellan Skarsgård magnificent as aging filmmaker & inattentive father. The real star is Renate Reinsve whose career & life teeter on the edge as she makes peace with him.

This is kind of a tier thing for me. S Tier: Hamnet and Bugonia are two incredible films. I'd be thrilled for either to win Best Picture, but probably neither is. A Tier: Sinners, The Secret Agent, Train Dreams and Frankenstein are all worthwhile and substantive films that just didn't hit quite as hard as the S Tiers. B Tier: F1 and Marty Supreme are both bad movies that don't deserve to be here, and if you like either of those films a lot, you probably suck. F Tier: One Battle After Another is one of the worst things I've ever seen, and if you like that movie, you should look into counseling or art therapy or something. Like, seriously.
