Photo: Dull grey slabs of concrete rise along a tarmac road. Two murals are shown.
In the first of these, a lion (the Lion of Judea) devours a large white dove wearing a black & white (Palestinian) keffiyeh. The lion's teeth are pointed and tipped with blood. The lion looks out from the wall out of the corner of its left eye. Along the left edge of the mural, the words "Stop the Wall" are painted. Below the lion's hind legs, the word "hypocrisy" has been painted. On its back, a an oil derrick and a dollar sign are drawn, perhaps as tattoos. Above them, the words "שקלים" (Hebrew for "shekels") over the oil derrick, and, in English, "Money" above the dollar sign.
In the second mural, half of a woman's face is visible. She, too, looks out from the wall with her one visible eye. She, too, wears a kaffiyeh. The kaffiyeh is blown by an unseen wind, creating a space for the words "to eXist is to Resist," drawn in a bright red with a broad brush.
Graffiti has been added to the wall and both murals.
On the first mural, on the underside of the dove's outflung left wing, someone has spraypainted "BIRD of terror." On its right wing, "das Sichere" has been spraypainted: German for "The Safe One."
On the second mural, "bleibt es nicht," has been spraypainted. German for "it doesn't stay." Also: "Viva Palestina Libre" and "Nuto Fascista." Italian or perhaps Spanish for "Long Live Free Palestine" and "Fascist Nut."
