Two Border Terriers stood in front of a concrete wall on a sunny but very cold and windy winters day in January.
The sign behind them in capital letters says Maryport Sea Wall.
They are both wearing dog coats to protect them from the weather.
They had recently been hand stripped - a grooming technique for certain dog breeds that involves manually pulling out the dead outer coat hairs from the root to maintain the coat's natural, wiry texture, vibrant colour, and protective qualities.
For breeds with a double coat (a soft undercoat and a coarse outer coat). Hand stripping is recommended for most dogs with a double-layered, wiry, or harsh outer coat.
It is not for all dogs though. Hand stripping is generally not recommended if a dog has sensitive skin, a skin condition, is elderly, or has been previously clipped (which changes coat texture).
