In the distance a steep 400 foot tall basalt cliff stretches across and beyond the frame for 3.5 miles. Several small lakes ringed with green foliage are at the base of the cliff. The rest of the vegetation is gold. The sky is blue with many fluffy white clouds. At the end of the ice age a flood occurred here because an ice dam in what is now northern Idaho broke. The water flowing over the falls is said to have been as much water as flows in all the rivers in the world.
