Sly as a fox
he slid the bundled papers across
an audacious smirk on his face.
I don't have the stamina for this
I thought.
Across the table my father's
portrait looked down
kind eyes, indomitable will.
"What would you've done dad?"
not given up, that's for sure.
Would have found a way.
If they give you words,
listen to them, acknowledge them.
If they give you papers,
read them.
Somewhere between the words and the papers
there's a pattern.
Once he started he was indefatigable.
I looked down from the portrait
at the grey suit
cold eyes in front of me.
Felt my spine stiffen
knew what I had to do.
