I like how Destinos includes historical plot points, but French in Action has more humor and features authentic film clips.

Studying social studies lists really helped for listening to news on Venezuela in Spanish.

I looked at what actors and opera singers do to perform texts in languages they might not necessarily speak. (The opera singers all say learn the languages.)
I imagine improv has good ideas to help people take risks and be less self-conscious.
