My father loved the ocean, the river and the lake long before my brother was born. Before the mountain and the madness wore thin the fabric of the family. The rumor was there was nixie blood running through the ancestral line. A nixie once loved a sailor home from the sea, playing sweet melodies on guitar by the river bend, the kind of sound to mend voids deep within a heart. That was the start, a great grandmother and then her son, the son after, and us too. The water brings us peace, a solace only understood when currents wash away fears and renew faith in starlight reflections. But when we're apart from the water too long, when locked doors keep us away from the melody of the river, lake and sea, It's then madness reigns free. And so begins our story.
This is a #WIP #poem, very rough intro to a project I'll be embarking on: a poetic novella told entirely in a sort of narrative free verse with some lyrical internal rhyme for flow. I'll leave other details for later. For now enjoy my belated #blueskyrelay #poetry response to the #nixie #prompt. 🤗
