A romantic antique/vintage 1920s 30s original German 'scherenschnitte' (scissor cut) silhouette of a young man awaiting his lover with his hat, cane, and flowers in hand framed artwork. Incredible detail with him sitting under a tree with a bird singing in a branch above, his hat, cane and flowers in hand, gazing at her house, the miller's daughter, maybe they're going to an event, a dance? Really lovely, and quite a romantic image! A fine artwork that was entirely cut by hand from a single piece of black paper that was mounted on a pumpkin orange/brown colored paper then matted framed and under glass, and depicting one of the popular themes from German folk lore. This artwork was no doubt purchased in Germany sometime in the inter-war period, and brought back to the US where it was later framed by the owner, and where it hung until just recently when I bought it at an estate sale for the present owner who inherited it from the original owner, a relative. The framing looks like it was done much later, probably the 1950s/60s era. Measures 16" wide by just under 18" tall at outer edges of the frame. There is no signature or other markings visible, though I haven't opened it up at back so there may be further information about the artist inside. Looks like there was a framer's sticker at back that was removed by the owner for some reason. I am selling another scherenschnitte from the same estate, and with matching frame etc, the second is of two lovers sharing a glass of wine under an archway of tree branches. Both images are extremely romantic and quite detailed images, and are in amazing condition! I am happy to sell them as a pair with combined shipping if you like. This artwork was photographed still under glass so there may be reflections from the glass, this is not damage or staining to the artwork or matting itself. Excellent antique condition.
A fairytale antique/vintage 1920s 30s original German 'scherenschnitte' (scissor cut) silhouette of two lovers sharing a goblet of wine in the shadow of trees framed artwork. Incredible detail of the branches, a bird in flight, she's standing on a stair, he's seated on a rail, and they are under an archway of the branches of the trees in whose shadow they're standing. Really lovely, and quite a romantic image!
