Art of a death's-head moth from November 1 of 2013.
The moth appears to fly toward the top-left of the canvas (cardstock.)
Colours are mostly yellows, oranges, and tans, with some blues and purples to create contrast; the background is white.
On the right portion of the art, there are dotted-swirls and leafy patterns incorporated into the hind- and forewings, and flowing off of the page to the right.

Macroglossum stellatarum (a sphingid moth) hovering to the right of violet flowers of a plant (Verbena). It uses its probiscis to feed. The background is greenish. You can clearly see the eye of the moth and its antennae as well as the reddish underwings though they are blurred due to the high wingbeat frequency.

Continuing the series of caterpillars that look like candy, this pine sphinx larva looks very edible. I'm sure it's not, though 😂

Note that this species of hawkmoth larva does not have a "horn", so I guess it's not technically a "hornworm".

Here’s yet another kind of pollination in Ipomoea: pollination by hawkmoths. This is I. alba, a fragrant, night-blooming species with a long, narrow corolla tube. #teammoth #Sphingidae #Convolvulaceae #Botany 🌾🧪🌱

A close up macro photograph captures a diurnal sphinx moth in the genus Hemaris, family Sphingidae, hovering above a vibrant purple butterfly bush bloom. The moth is viewed from the side, its plush pale yellow thorax meeting a glossy black abdomen that ends in a cream band. Rapid wingbeats create soft brown arcs of motion blur at the edges of the frame, while the insect’s forelegs and long shiny proboscis stretch toward the nectar. Fine individual scales on the body glow under bright natural light. Large charcoal compound eyes, short facial hairs, and a single velvety black antenna sweeping forward are crisply detailed. The violet petals below are ruffled and textured, flecked with tiny grains of pollen. A smooth green background fades into deep black, isolating the pollinator and bloom and emphasizing the precision of the moth mid flight.

I spotted a beautiful sphinx moth (Hemaris) while relaxing in the sun and caught it sipping from a butterfly bush.
