Their accomplishments in summary, their tragedies, unwon ambitions, can never answer, βWere they happy?β What will they write of me when I die? What words will be chosen to defend me, to praise my work? Why should I care? The truth of a man cannot be known while he lives and eats and walks and breathes. Obituaries weigh only facts. Our eudaimonia goes with us.

The Gauge Of Love Sat in the middle of love: bowl of cereal in the kitchen, under vapour trails from your bouts of circling busyness with a son on my left, his homework battling the internet; you telling me spilt coffee-drops are a scar, and suddenly, all the other things you have held in or found. This is mid-love, I guess; not by the seating in an ever tightening room, but a needle recording (just for tonight), its half-drained level.

I don't do free verse often
Subtext The data bloomed first in the flowering rate, petals opening out of season, too soon, phenology flagged but filed as debate. Roots altered depth, mangroves learned the moon, fish rerouted spawning maps with care, currents shifted, plankton read the monsoon. Corals ghosted white in warming air, trees closed stomata, seas changed breath, and still we called it noise, not care.
A nature/climate change poem. Thanks for the #PromptCombo topic #subtext and the challenging terza rima. Hope I cracked the structure. π«£

A poem by Debbie Ross entitled focused a single stanza with text as follows: He's looking at me, nodding occasionally with a faint murmur of ascent, but I catch the flick of eyes to the TV, clocking the score in the afternoon rugby.

Literally
If they actually, suddenly
took their god as written,
it would be impossible
to find a spot to fish
among the pharisaic
barkers crowding
the pier with millstones
around their necks.
I don't often do that much #Subtext so thanks to @victoriaspires.bsky.social for the #PromptCombo incentive. I was also inspired by her Late Poppies poem, so here's one I created in November and have edited a wee bit.
The original prompt was 5 line vignette, a Proper Noun and onomatopoeia.
