A close-up photo of a one full, open-faced magenta-hued flower, with pale yellow pistils, after a rain shower. Beside it, and just behind its petals are a cluster of younger, dark purple, still immature buds. The petals - but not the sword-like, dark green leaves behind - are covered in perfect surface-tensioned, globular raindrops: an over-bedecked belle, with jewels impossibly clinging by the smallest point of contact. Anthropomorphizing, it made me think of the elder sister’s time to shine at the great ball, while her younger sisters peep from behind, and dream of their own grand entrance in the future.

Photograph taken using a macro setting of bright yellow gorse flowers in a hedgerow. The sunlight catches the blooms. Behind the flowers is the brown and deep green tangle of branches and thorns of the hedgerow and a pinprick of blue sky through from the other side. Took the image looking up at the flowers. Mum says; "When gorse is out of bloom, kissing is out of season" whenever she sees it. Quite a fun saying and given there are a few varieties the season is never ending - hoorah!
