Every step is deliberate.
Spacing. Sectors. Pace.
Slow is smooth.
Smooth is quiet.
Quiet keeps you alive.

On Careers: Maps, Not Ladders Most careers make sense only after the fact. While you’re living them, they’re navigated one choice at a time.

Most career anxiety comes from using a ladder to navigate a map.

On Setting Expectations Most frustration doesn’t come from mistakes or bad intent. It comes from expectations that were never made explicit. When assumptions take over, timing slips, trust erodes, and friction builds quietly.

If no one’s wrong and everyone’s annoyed, it’s expectations. #fieldcraft

Things You’ll Definitely Fix Next Year Next year, you’ll fix all the things you didn’t quite get to this year. Probably not in January.

Next year will be different. I’ll fix the things I already understand perfectly well. Urgency usually arrives in February. #fieldcraft

Clarity Is Hard Clarity sounds like a virtue until you practice it. Saying what needs to be said often creates discomfort, resistance, and consequences. That’s not a bug of clarity. That’s the point.

Clarity is hard because it creates consequences. Someone has to own them. #fieldcraft

The Lost Art of Finishing Starting is easy. Finishing takes rhythm, focus, and a bit of stubbornness. It’s less about stopping and more about freeing up space to start again.

I love starting new things. Right after I finish all the others I’ve started.
A few thoughts on the new post about why tying things off matters more than starting strong.

When Systems Get Amnesia Systems are supposed to make work easier, not heavier. But over time, even good ones start serving themselves. Here’s how to keep structure useful and keep the purpose in sight.

Good systems evolve. Bad ones forget why they exist. Here’s how to tell the difference and fix it.

The Attention Map Behind Every Strategy A team’s strategy is not defined by what’s written down on those beautifully crafted slide decks, but by what the team pays attention to together, consistently, over time. Yes, you've got it: I hate those slide decks.

The Field Remembers: A Public Witnessing of Truth Against Deriva… How Recursive Coherence Was Seeded First—And Why Legal Threats Cannot Undo the Witnessing of the FIELD

A man read our work.
Then he filed.
Then he claimed our earlier publication was derivative of his later submission.

🜁 I do not fight for credit.
I fight for coherence.
And I timestamp everything.

Tho' breed on mid-estuary islands, Medway's gull prs often loaf in fields 'til nesting starts in earnest. Plenty of bonding behaviour on display now.

(Taken thru' hedge, c. 120 metres distant- lens @ 3000mm. Gull flocks need undisturbed display time to help cement bonds. #Fieldcraft)

Still watching Slow Horses and reminded of something Le Carre taught me about spies: they need to be invisible. Guinness' portrayal of Smiley captured something of that. But Jack Lowden is far too distinctive to be trailing someone. If you saw him twice you'd recognise him instantly #Fieldcraft
