Preparing for the holidays with little pieces of packaged presents tucked away in the corner closet. How could they ever afford it? Pennies collected like acorns enough to buy new shoes for the kids, perhaps a coffee maker for the parents, If they could ever manage to spring for the grounds, and old books gifted with love drawn in the margins. Squirrels give furtive glances to frost-crisped grass, Winter is coming.
I'm not sure if the italics work. I tried parentheses, em dashes, and even cutting the lines altogether. But somehow, as asides, this works I hope. First attempt at a #haibun. Best wishes 🤗
