A colour photograph in landscape format. It shows a section from an old tapestry (might be Tudor English, so 1485-1603) hanging in one of the bedrooms. The scene is a of some houses in a village with verdant trees and flowers. The blues and brown colours remain, but the green of the oak leaves has faded badly.

Handsome Haddon Hall, Derbyshire
Hello Friday! Here is a detail from a large wall tapestry at lovely Haddon Hall, near #Bakewell from our visit in 2024. It has faded because of its great age, but is still really beautiful!

A landscape image taken on a snowy day, not this year we haven’t had the pleasure of snow yet…..

Looking across the image filling the first two thirds we have a very large festive wreath, it was part of the decoration at Haddon Hall Christmas market. There is a decent dusting of snow on the ground which enhances the wreath with its berry adornments. Looking up the slope through the wreath we have the hall itself, which is incidentally the complete medieval manor houses in England. The top right is filled with a magnificent tree.

A landscape oriented image taken in the garden of of Haddon Hall, a medieval manor house near Bakewell in Derbyshire. It’s the height of summer and the wide herbaceous bed on the left of the image is in full bloom. In front of it runs a path and on it stands a lady in a sun hat admiring the flowers (the lady is my late mother, she loved gardens and gardening). The path runs on into the image until it comes to the base of some wonderfully ornate steps, complete with shapely stone balustrades that lead up to the higher level of the garden, beyond the steps we can see the tops of trees and on the right of the foreground is a well tended lawn.

I have such happy memories of this day, and many others, spent in the wonderful company of my mum x

The remains of three skeletons painted on a white plastered wall. Two have skills and torsos. The rightmost is just a skull and shoulders, it looks like it has a spiky tendril of foliage in its mouth. To the right of the skeletons are branches and leaves.

#skeletonsonsaturday anyone? This trio can be found in the chapel at Haddon Hall in Derbyshire.

A black and white photograph in portrait format. It shows the interior of an Elizabethan house built on different levels. A plain leaded window at the top of a short flight of stone steps throws plenty of light on the stone floor below.

This little memorial, possibly grave, at St Katherine's Church, Rowsley, #Derbyshire, of the five men who were killed during the Haddon Tunnel Collapse on the 2nd of July 1861.

The tunnel under the Haddon Hall estate remains but is closed to people and traffic.

Did anyone spot the Roman altar in BBC’s Wolf Hall this weekend as they shot on location at #HaddonHall. The dedication by Quintus Sittius Caecilianus is to a romanised god Mars Braciaca (god of malt) obviously a cereal warmonger. #RIB278

Christmas starting early at #Haddonhall mercatum. Ordinarily would be doing this later in the season but someone (not me) is having a hip replacement very shortly

This vintage postcard is sepia coloured and shows a flight of stone steps with stone balustrades viewed from the path below. The mellow golden stone of Haddon Hall is very beautiful and the picture refers to the romantic elopement of Dorothy Vernon and Sir John Manners in 1563.
