Chateau du Tailhas Pomerol 2008, Bordeaux, France It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Dark ruby/ purple in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim. Pretty nose of red and black fruits with light wood, herbs, light chocolates, earth, coffee and black pepper. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, light oak, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth, dark chocolates and black tea. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a delicious Merlot from Pomerol. Well balanced and complex. Tangy and tasty. Rich and elegant, with enough fruits to compliment the earth notes. Spicy and entertaining. This 18 year old is drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. I've had a few vintages of this wine, and it is much better with age. A good sipping wine that will also pair nicely with food. A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 12 months in (50% new) French oak barrels. 13% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $80.

I’ve had better second #wine or cru bourgeois than this 2000 Premier cru #SaintEmilion This Bélair is lightish and short on fruit and palate. This is already past its prime. Good thing Edouard Moueix took over the property and brought it back from the dead. #Bordeaux #Merlot

Domaine de Cambes Cotes de Bourg 2011, Bordeaux, France It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Beautiful nose of black fruits with wood, earth, herbs, chocolates and black pepper. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, chocolates, licorice and dark coffee. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 15 year old Merlot from Cotes de Bourg is drinking beautifully now. Elegant and rich. Complex, powerful and interesting. Balanced and complex with a soft mouthfeel. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. I've had younger vintages and it is very consistent. Delicious by itself as a sipping wine. A blend of mostly Merlot with Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels. 14% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $80.

Oakville Winery DDR 2022, Napa Valley, California Dark ruby in color with medium plus intensity and a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose with red and blue fruits, light wood, coffee, oregano, dark chocolates, earth and light spices. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry and fruity on the palate with cherries, plums, currants, light oak, spices, chocolates, licorice and light black pepper. Medium length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Nicely balanced and complex. Rich and fruit forward. Delicate and engaging. Elegant and easy drinking right out of the bottle, and much better after 2 hours in the decanter. Showing a very pretty nose once it opens up. This Single Vineyard Red Blend will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. I had the 2021 vintage a year ago and it is very consistent. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with food. A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc, 10% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot. 14.1% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $50.

Cardinale Winery Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2009, California #AgedWineTuesday Inky in color with a short purple rim. Not showing much age. Fruity nose of black currants, black plums, blackberries, vanilla, cedar, licorice, cola, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, spices and black pepper. Full-bodied and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and fruit forward on the palate with blackberries, black plums, cooked cherries, dried fruits, cedar, chocolates, figs, cola, vanilla, licorice, tobacco, herbs, spices and light earth. Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries. This 17 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is still drinking beautifully. Rich and engaging. Elegant, soft and fruit forward. Beautifully balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Needed 90 minutes in the bottle to open up properly and show great complexity, with good structure. This gorgeous Cabernet is still drinking at its peak, but will not get better from this point on. Will continue to drink nicely in the next 7 years. A great sipping wine that will pair nicely with a big piece of steak too. A blend of 91% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Merlot. Aged in all new French oak barrels for 22 months. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 94 points. $200.

Nose of black currants, blackberries, black cherries, cedar, coffee, toast, light vanilla, dark chocolates, peppercorn, licorice, light earth, herbs and spices. Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with cooked plums, currants, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn. Long finish with medium tannins and tangy cherries. This is a young Bordeaux blend from Yountville in Napa Valley. Rich and extracted. Dense and fruit forward. Chewy and interesting. This Single Vineyard is very dry right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime. Nicely balanced and complex. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Good by itself or with food. A blend of 51% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec. 14.2% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $80.

Amavi Cellars Walla Walla Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Washington State It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Strong nose of black fruits with light cedar, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, cola, herbs and spices. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, black plums, cedar, tobacco leaf, light earth, coffee, herbs, dark chocolates, black tea, peppercorn and cola. Long finish with no tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious 10-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon from Walla Walla Valley. Rich and fruit forward. Complex and nicely balanced. Good right out of the bottle and didn't evolve much with air, even after after 2 hours. Wine Enthusiasts 90 points. I had this vintage 7 years ago, and it is so much better now. Probably a little past its peak, but delicious nonetheless. A little flat at this point, but very tasty. I love these Cabernet based Bordeaux blends. Easy drinking and a great sipping wine. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. Aged in (28% new) French Oak barrels. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $45 (current vintage).

Long finish with no tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious 10-year-old Cabernet Sauvignon from Walla Walla Valley. Rich and fruit forward. Complex and nicely balanced. Good right out of the bottle and didn't evolve much with air, even after after 2 hours. Wine Enthusiasts 90 points. I had this vintage 7 years ago, and it is so much better now. Probably a little past its peak, but delicious nonetheless. A little flat at this point, but very tasty. I love these Cabernet based Bordeaux blends. Easy drinking and a great sipping wine. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. Aged in (28% new) French Oak barrels. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $45 (current vintage).

Fruity nose of red and black fruits with wood, earth, tobacco and chocolate notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with blueberries, plums, cooked cherries, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, earth and herbs. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very tasty Merlot from Pomerol. Complex and interesting. Spicy, elegant and fruit forward. Drinking very nicely now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. I had the 2016 vintage last year and it was even better. Would be nice to revisit it in a few years. Nicely balanced and easy drinking. Good by itself or with food. Strong nose of black currants, blackberries, cedar, spices, vanilla, chocolates, light alcohol, herbs and peppercorn. Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, light vanilla, chocolates, coffee, herbs and peppercorn. Long spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich and fruit forward. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Elegant, smooth and spicy. This 8 year old Cabernet Sauvignon is starting to drink nicely now, but still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Still very young, and needs 7 years in the bottle to mature properly, but already enjoyable even by itself. This 2022 was a great vintage, and is already very approachable at its youth. Will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years. Nicely balanced and rich. Fruit forward and elegant. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A blend of mostly Merlot with Cabernet Franc.
