Chateau du Tailhas Pomerol 2008, Bordeaux, France

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby/ purple in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim.

Pretty nose of red and black fruits with light wood, herbs, light chocolates, earth, coffee and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, light oak, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn, earth, dark chocolates and black tea.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a delicious Merlot from Pomerol. Well balanced and complex. Tangy and tasty.

Rich and elegant, with enough fruits to compliment the earth notes. Spicy and entertaining.

This 18 year old is drinking at its peak now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

I've had a few vintages of this wine, and it is much better with age.

A good sipping wine that will also pair nicely with food.

A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 12 months in (50% new) French oak barrels.

13% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$80.

I’ve had better second #wine or cru bourgeois than this 2000 Premier cru #SaintEmilion This Bélair is lightish and short on fruit and palate. This is already past its prime. Good thing Edouard Moueix took over the property and brought it back from the dead. #Bordeaux #Merlot

Figgins Estate Figlia 2022, Walla Walla Valley, Washington State Dark red in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose with chocolates and earth notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with sweet raspberries, cherries, red currants, light wood, earth, spices, chocolates, tobacco and herbs. Tangy finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very tasty Petit Verdot/Merlot blend from Walla Walla Valley. Rich and spicy. Bold and good by itself or with food. Tangy and interesting. Feels like it needs a few more years in the bottle to mature properly. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years and see how it evolves. A nice sipping wine, with a deep staining color. A blend of Petit Verdot and Merlot. Aged in (11% new) French oak barrels for 22 months. 14.3% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $55.

Nicely balanced and rich. Fruit forward and elegant. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food.

A blend of mostly Merlot with Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels.

...Later, more plums than prunes, and the slightest hint of black currant liqueuer.

It has a strongly alcoholic kick on the back of the palate that remains throughout.

7 Alternatives to Petrus, the World’s Most Expensive Bordeaux Bordeaux has long been recognized as one of the most prestigious wine regions in the world — and for good reason. The French locale practically introduced the world to fine wine, with Napoleon III’s 1855 Classification of Bordeaux (which is still in place today) establishing the sector and serving as a reference point for wine classification worldwide. While revolutionary, the 1855 Classification only included Sauternes and Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where Cabernet Sauvignon-based blends dominate. It did not include Bordeaux’s Right Bank, where one will find Pomerol, the smallest and most elite fine-wine subregion in Bordeaux.
