Netofa Winery Latour Red 2018, Galilee, Israel #KosherWineSunday Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate and very fruity. Showing red and black fruits with light wood, spices, licorice, coffee, dark chocolates, peppercorn, tobacco, bitter herbs, light vegetables, dried meats and light iron notes. Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This 8 year old Syrah blend from Israel is drinking at its peak now. Elegant and nicely balanced. Spicy and fruit forward. Complex and interesting. I had this vintage 5 years ago, and it is drinking better now. Will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Wine Enthusiasts 90 points. Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. A blend of 70% Syrah and 30% Mourvedre. Aged in French oak barrels for 13 months. Kosher and not Mevushal. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $30 (at release).

Terragena Winery Anderson Valley Pinot Noir 2023, Mendocino County, California Light red in color with light intensity. Light nose of strawberries, cranberry juice and light herbs. Light bodied with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with fresh cherries, strawberries, cranberries, bitter herbs, spices, light earth and black pepper. Tangy finish with soft tannins and tart cherries. This is an easy drinking Pinot Noir from Anderson Valley in California. Nicely balanced with mild complexity and a soft mouthfeel. Loved the low alcohol here. Good right out of the bottle, and gets earthier after 90 minutes of airtime. Still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 years. Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. A good porch wine and good for the pool too. 100% Pinot Noir grapes were aged in French and Hungarian oak barrels. A small production of 650 cases. 11.5% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $49.

Force Majeure Red Mountain Syrah 2018, Washington State Inky in color with a short reddish rim. Strong nose of black fruits with cedar, licorice, chocolates, earth, herbs, mediterranean spices and black pepper. Full-bodied and smooth with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and very fruity on the palate with black currants, black plums, dried fruits, cedar, figs, light alcohol, black licorice, dark chocolates, light earth, tobacco, herbs and peppercorn. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This 8 year old Syrah from Red Mountain is drinking beautifully now. Rich and fruit forward. Nicely balanced and elegant. Complex and entertaining. Delicious now, and drinking close to its peak. Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 2 hours of airtime. Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. A blend of 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier. Aged for 18 months in (23% new) large French oak barrels. Chateau du Tailhas Pomerol 2019, Bordeaux, France It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back! Pretty color of dark ruby, with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose of red and black fruits with wood, earth, tobacco and chocolate notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with blueberries, plums, cooked cherries, oak, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, earth and herbs. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a very tasty Merlot from Pomerol. Complex and interesting. Spicy, elegant and fruit forward. Drinking very nicely now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 7 years. I had the 2016 vintage last year and it was even better. Would be nice to revisit it in a few years. Nicely balanced and easy drinking. Good by itself or with food. A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged for 12 months in (50% new) French oak barrels. 14% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $65.

Dama Wines Painted Hills Vineyard Grenache 2022, Columbia Valley, Washington State Purple in color with medium plus intensity, and a wide purplish rim. Fruity nose and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate and spicy. Showing sweet raspberries, cherries, red currants, earth, light wood, spices, dark chocolates, peppercorn and herbs. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a tasty Grenache from Columbia Valley in Washington State. Elegant and fruit forward, with a soft mouthfeel. Nicely balanced and complex. This Single Vineyard Grenache is easy drinking and very approachable already. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years and see how it evolves. A nice sipping wine that will pair nicely with food too. Grenache grapes were aged in (20% new) French oak barrels for 23 months. 14.8% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $45.

Seven Hills Winery Rocks District Syrah 2021, Walla Walla Valley, Washington State Deep purple in color with a purplish rim. Strong nose of black currants, cooked plums, barnyard, tobacco leaf and herbs. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, licorice, chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, vegetables and peppercorn. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This young Syrah from the Rocks District in Walla Walla Valley is nicely balanced, rich and extracted. Bold, yet elegant. Already complex and approachable, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Stinky in a good way, and feels like a new world Syrah with a Northern Rhone feel. Good by itself or with food, like game meats. Grapes were aged for 18 months in French oak barrels. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $50.

Long spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Rich and fruit forward. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Elegant, smooth and spicy. This 8 year old Cabernet Sauvignon is starting to drink nicely now, but still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years and see how it evolves. Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Good by itself or with food. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice complexity. Showing red cherries, red currants, earth, light chocolate notes, tobacco leaf, herbs and spices. Nice finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries. This Grenache blend from the great 2022 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape is already drinking very nicely. Rich and fruit forward. Elegant and nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Good right out of the bottle, and better with airtime. Still young and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but very approachable now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. A great sipping wine that will also pair nicely with food. A blend of 63% Grenache, 13% Mourvedre, 11% Syrah, 7% Counoise, 5% Cinsault and 1% local varieties. Nose of blueberries, black currants, cooked plums, light oak, dark chocolates, peppercorn, herbs, bell peppers, earth, tobacco leaf and black tea. Nice length on the finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a young Cabernet Franc from Mendoza. Rich and extracted with lots of earth and vegetable notes. Needs 5 years in the bottle to mature, but already drinking nicely. Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. Complex and interesting enough to drink by itself. Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel. Fresh, and easy drinking. Good tight out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. A blend of 99% Mourvèdre with a touch of Roussanne. Beautiful nose of black currants, light oak, spices, plums, cooked cherries, herbs, garrigue, earth, espresso, light vegetables, forest floor, dried meats and black tea. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Very dry on the palate with black plums, black currants, light wood, spices, coffee, black tea, peppercorn and cola notes. Short finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries. This 13 year old French Malbec is still drinking very nicely, but a tad past its prime. Complex and chewy. Showing a wonderful nose and a complex mid palate, but the finish was a bit disappointing. Loved smelling on it for a long time. Definitely showing its age, especially on the nose. Doesn't drink like a Malbec at all, though. Feels more like an old world Bordeaux blend. So interesting. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Wine Enthusiasts 90 points. Long finish with soft tannins and cherries. This 10 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now. Rich, elegant and fruit forward. Drinking at its peak now. Nicely balanced and smooth, with a soft mouthfeel. Delicious right out of the bottle, and even better after 30 minutes of airtime. I did not decant it, but let it open up in the bottle. Really enjoyed the nose after an hour of airtime. Easy drinking, and good by itself as a sipping wine, or with a nice piece of steak. This 6 year old feels much older than it is. Spicy with an oxidized feel. Complex, nicely balanced and entertaining. A blend of 55% Clairette and 45% Ugni Blanc from 80 year old vines. Aged for 5 months on the lees in egg shaped concrete vats. 13.5% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $30.

This is a gorgeous 12 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain in Washington State. Complex and fruit forward. Rich and elegant. I had a more recent vintage not too long ago, and it’s definitely better with age. This Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is absolutely fantastic now. Drinking at its peak, and will continue to drink nicely in the next 7 years. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel and a gorgeous nose. Loved smelling on it. The high alcohol is well integrated by now. Good by itself as a sipping wine, and paired beautifully with the delicious Wagyu Steak. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were aged in all new French oak barrels for 20 months. 15.2% alcohol by volume. 94 points. $180.

Artiste Winery Malaguena Non Vintage, Santa Barbara County, California Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry and fruity on the palate, with a strong and complex nose. Showing blackberries, black currants, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, herbs and peppercorn. Long finish with soft tannins and tangy cherries. This Zinfandel based blend from Santa Barbara County is drinking beautifully now, and drinking at its peak. Rich and fruit forward. Nicely balanced and complex. Delicious right out of the bottle, and feels like an Orin Swift red blend. I had it 5 years ago, and it is drinking so much better now. Elegant and good by itself as a sipping wine. Paired beautifully with my steak. A blend of 77% Zinfandel and 23% Petit Verdot. Bottled in 2019. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $50.

Lytle Barnett Winery Eola-Amity Hills Blanc de Blancs 2019, Oregon Pale lemon in color. Nose of fresh limes, green apples, light brioche, grapefruits, herbs and spices. Medium plus in body with high acidity and small bubbles. Dry on the palate with lemons, limes, green apples, light earth, minerals, herbs, light yeast and spices. Long finish with lemon juice and sea salt. This is a delicious Sparkling wine from Oregon. Still young, but already enjoyable, even by itself. Tangy and interesting. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. Rich and engaging. Fruit forward and complex. This 6 year old will continue to age nicely in the next 10 years. The palate is more complex than the nose at this point. Good right out of the bottle, and better after an hour of airtime. Good by itself or with food, and better when not too cold. Meadowcroft Wines 20 Years Non Vintage Anniversary Cuvee, Mendocino County, California Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Fruity nose with black fruits, cedar, dark chocolates, black tea, spices and herbs. Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs. Arizona Stronghold Vineyards Bonita Springs Vineyard Marsanne 2024, Arizona Dark gold in color. Fruity nose of oak, vanilla, melons, yellow apples, spices and light herbs. Full-bodied and elegant with medium minus acidity. Dry on the palate with apples, citrus, spices, oak, herbs, vanilla, earth and light vegetables. Short finish with limes and bitter almonds. This is an easy drinking white wine from Arizona. Feels like a California Chardonnay with a touch of Rhone. Interesting stuff. This Single Vineyard Marsanne needs some time in the bottle to mature properly, but already very approachable. Spicy and interesting, with mild complexity. Good by itself and good for parties. 100% Marsanne grapes were aged in new French oak barrels. A tiny production of only 660 bottles. 13.9% alcohol by volume. 88 points.

This 8 year old Merlot from Pomerol is showing a very fresh nose, but starting to show age on the palate. Might be just this specific bottle, though. Rich and fruit forward. Complex and interesting. Plush and creamy.
