A portrait oriented image taken at dawn of gondolas on the waterfront in Venice. It’s an oft taken image but it has to be done. The bottom two thirds of the frame are the water and gondolas in it. The angle puts the boats on a diagonal so the from the bottom left corner the water fills the image in a triangle and then we have the gently bobbing gondolas with their shadows on the water. It’s a long exposure so the boats are slightly blurred with their doffing (the metal piece at the front of the boat) glinting. Jutting up between them are the mooring posts and running from mid top third away from us are a line of lanterns still lit as the sun is not yet up, but we do have a lovely orange/yellow sky above everything.

A landscape oriented image looking down the Grand Canal in Venice from the oft photographed vantage point of the Academia Bridge. Many grand palaces, hotels and private homes line either side of the canal as it wends its way through the image. We also see boat moorings in front of the buildings adding to the romance of the scene. At the far end sits La Salute a very famous Roman Catholic Church. The sky above is a mix of orange and blue as the sun is beginning to rise behind the buildings out of sight from the bridge.

An orange coo for Orange Sunday, a highland cow, which I love. It’s a landscape oriented image with the cow laying fairly central in the frame surrounded by last year’s heather. In front of her is a large tussock of grass, it’s slightly to the left, behind her are the trunks of silver birch trees.

A landscape oriented image taken in a location known as Beeley Moor on Christmas Day this year (2025). We had a stunning walk with a cold wind but enough sunshine to make up for it. The image is made up of curving layers. The bottom layer is dead bracken, wonderfully orange in its decline. Amongst it on the left we see a rickety wooden fence. Above the bracken is woodland, again orange can be seen here along with green, red and cream, not leaves as these are long gone, rather the burgeoning buds that will form next year’s leaves seen against the trunks and branches. This woodland begins in the bottom left of the frame and works its way across the image to the top right. Above it on the left we see the distant hillside, verdant green fields dotted with trees. Topping it all is a cloudy sky, fortunately light cloud that allowed the sun to come through and light up all this splendid countryside.

A landscape oriented image taken early on a winter morning down in my local meadows. Running into the photo on the right is a wood field fence that meets up with a stone wall. Just behind the fence is a mature beech tree with its branches spreading out across the image until they disappear on the left hand side, it is still holding on to some autumn leaves. In front is an opening into the next field, once upon a time there would have been a gate but this has long since disappeared. Beyond this field are trees, again still with leaves. Everything is covered in a layer of snow, a magical transformation of the countryside.

The image is a 50/50 split as the reflection is as essential to the image as the buildings themselves. The buildings are orange brick. The most tender shade of green on the new persimmon tree leaves in early March. The leaves and fruit buds set at the same time.
Same persimmon tree eight month later, in November. The colors change beautifully, and once the leaves have fallen, the fruit still stays on the branches, giving the impression of Christmas ornaments on a bare tree! Birds love the fruit as much as we do, so we always leave some on the tree for our feathered friends 🤗😍🙏!

The most tender green leaves on my Persimmon tree this year in March, and now, in November, it’s showing off with brilliant hues of yellow, copper and orange!

Landscape oriented image. Down the entire left hand side of the image are the branches of a Japanese maple with vivid yellow and orange leaves as it displays its autumn colours. Along the bottom is a moss covered rock, there are more moss covered rocks central in the image. They are large rocks and feature mature trees that seem to be growing out of them. Other than the rocks the image is filled with trees. The acer and the two on the rocks are the subjects of the image.
