Looking up at redwoods, they have split into a few trunks. Redwoods can do that! Nothing but sky and thin clouds above.

An adjacent view of tall leaded windows at Parham House in Surrey, on a sunny day.

From this angle, we see outside a sun-bleached lawn, surrounded by darker green trees, and a bright blue sky with cottony-bands of white clouds.

Inside, we see the 10-light windows, each made up of leaded panes, in stone casements, and a wooden window seat set below - honeyed by the sun rays projecting silhouettes of the window panes on the seat.

There are white curtains - at two levels - a set for the upper smaller windows, and a set for the lower longer ones; the curtains are drawn back allowing the summer view. Two of the upper windows are open, and at the farthest end the upper curtain softly billows - capturing a moment of something invisible we all know and feel, but only see it’s affects.

One of my favorite captures of a soft #summerbreeze for #WindowsOnWednesday. See ALT for description.

A close-up view of a transparent, teal-grey and gold, Egyptian glass Christmas ornament.

From an integral glass loop at the top, it has the overall shape of a descending series of horizontal glass ellipsoids.

The largest (about the size of a wooden yo-yo laying on its side) is gilded with a circumferential infinity scroll overlaying herringbone etching.

Below this largest ellipsoid are a further three - although closer to a squashed disc shape, decreasing in diameter, and a gilded stripe along their circumference. Finally, the whole ornament finishes with a clear glass fat teardrop at the bottom.
*******

Prior to launching as nomadic retired fogies, we downsized our life possessions to 14 medium cardboard boxes stowed under a family member’s stairs.

The photo of this ornament, one of a couple [mementos of a family trip to Egypt when our children were young], was taken at that moment when it became time to divide the family Christmas ornaments for bequeathing to the next generation.

As a lover of beautiful, shiny bright objects, I was sad to let this–and it’s partner–go, but I knew they would be valued because their new owners were part of the shared memory.

Life goes on.

Well, I fell off the #ArtAdventCalendar consistency track, and missed the deadline. Still, I wanted to finish the project.

This very close-up view of a pink glass heart with frosty glitter shoulders and tiny polka dots, and a silver collar hangs from a ring on a Christmas tree - whose macro tips of needles are seen at the bottom of the image.

Soft bokeh orbs of blue, white, red and green tree lights are visible in the background.
************
Why . . .

Thursday nights were late-night shopping at the up-market department store in the British city where I lived - staying open to a scandalously late 7:30pm. These late-night hours were unprecedented in our city.

At the time, my mother and I worked for different employers, located downtown, and across the street from one another.

Once these extended hours started, it became our tradition to meet at the department store on our way home, and β€˜window-shop’ - as it was a bit more pricey that our budgets.

One December evening, we met up to see the new display of Christmas ornaments. When I saw this plump, candy-floss pink heart with frosted glitter shoulders, it was love at first sight! An extravagance I couldn’t leave the store without.

For 46 years It has hung on every Christmas tree I’ve had since then, and every time I see and hold it, I am reminded of those times with my mother, because it reminds me of her - classy, delicate but strong, sometimes a little frosty but, oh such a generous heart.
Loved and missed every day.

Bauble and bokeh for Day 14 of #ArtAdventCalendar - a heart that warms mine.

A rose bud just beginning to blossom. The green sepals are beginning to split, allowing the red petals to start separating. The background has a strong blur in shades of green and brown.

A picture from a few years ago. I am obsessed with photographing rose buds. Yeah, I'm not opposed to the open flowers, but something about the buds just call to me. So much promise...
Anyway.
