A fair amount of more personal violence, betrayal & death this ep along w/ a lot of political maneuvering. Mariko’s husband’s jealousy boils over.

The meditations on myths & legends be reality were not particularly deep but sufficed.

West: Philosophy of being in charge of one's fate: Blackthorne, obsession for new horizons.
East: Opposite philosophy. Toranaga, broad vision w one goal, adapts. Lives a life of grace/courage.

Relationship with #Shogun changes. 40 minutes left. Beginning to understand more. Perspectives of East and West so opposite here. Blackthorne totally "off his turf." If we mainly sense through his perception, the unsettled, unsure, fearful, and out of place tone of the series is apt. My two cents.
