The Telling
They took me into a side room,
a store room of sorts,
stacked with unused equipment
and three mis-matched chairs.
I sat down on the blue one, while they remained standing.
Towering.
They said it was vigorous.
A strange word out of context.
Said there was nothing could be done,
then left me alone,
to prepare.
To cry where no one could see,
so that when I emerged,
when I rejoined you,
it would be with a mask of steadiness,
a reassuring smile.
You were vigorous once.
Climbed mountains to rescue me.
Threw me around like a toy.
But now that energy
was feeding something else.
Something so vigorous
it consumed you,
within a single,
merciless week.
