On your screen, a sun-lit mediaeval village is visible through the shadowed arches of a portal. The houses in town are pastel coloured and half timbered.
Like the rest of Alfa, it has a colourful history, being passed back-and-forth between Germany and France. In fact, an educated ear (& the ability to decipher rare languages) will be able to identify the Alsatian language as primarily mediaeval German.

Turckheim became a free imperial city in 1312, and in 1315, the construction of the still extant ramparts was begun. From 1354 to 1679, Turckheim was part a league of ten free imperial cities of the Holy Roman Empire. After the Peace of Westphalia (1648), Turckheim and the other Alsatian towns refused to swear allegiance to the French king.

During the Franco-Dutch War, the village of Turckheim was taken by French armies, which subsequently defeated armies of Austria and Brandenburg in what became known as the Battle of Turckheim (1675). In 1678, with the signing of the Treaties of Nijmegen, the French king assumed control over Turckheim.
In 1871, at the end of the Franco-Prussian War, the town, with the rest of the Alsace, became part of the German Empire.
In 1918, it reverted to France.
Turckheim is one of only a few remaining towns in France with a municipal night watchman, who makes the rounds at 10 p.m. between 1 May and 31 October and on the three Saturdays preceding Christmas. Maintained for tourist reasons, the position commemorates the 13th-century night watchman who prevented a fire.

On a personal note, my youngest daughter chose this town as the location for her wedding reception, after having moved to France nine years earlier. She fell in love with the country first, and eventually met the man she would marry. The night watchman accompanied us through the town and shared its history with us.
I shall add a picture of the night watchman with my daughter in the comment section. The contrast between them is highly amusing.

The Road Through the Porte de France into Turckheim
One of the treasured historical Alsatian towns that survived WWII untouched. A walk through town means walking on cobblestones. Neither high heels nor bare feet like those roads

Pic is of an old photo album page that has 3 things on it: a pic looking at the Pocono PA racetrack, the ticket to get in and a dollar bill signed by someone but I do not remember, I think we met former race car driver and broadcaster "Gentleman Ned Jarrett" but I'm not sure.

Three cars are being rolled on the field. The middle car is Richard Petty's and has the STP logo on it. The stands in the background are filled.

I wish I have been able to save more of my Palm Springs photos given the amazing light there. I hated the heat, but I loved that light.

Took this yesterday #WeekRforRoads on my way home from the May Day #Festival at the school where I worked for many years.๐Ÿ’— Each class 1 through 7 dances, then the little ones scatter petals for class 8. All the children in these snaps are grown now, in or headed to college. Beautiful celebration!

I lost most of the photos I took when I was traveling Highway 5 in California, sadly. Maybe one day I can take some more.

A dimly lit cobblestone road at night, framed by brick buildings illuminated with vertical strips of purple lighting. The arched passage opens into a brighter area with more buildings in the background, where a few blurred silhouettes of people are walking, creating a moody, atmospheric urban scene.
