Brassfield Estates Winery Proprietary Red Volcano Ridge Vineyard Eruption 2021, California Dark purple in color with a short reddish rim. Strong and fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, cedar, black pepper, vanilla, licorice, light spices and milk chocolates. Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and very fruity on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, cedar, licorice, cola, chocolates, tobacco and light herbs. Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries. This 5 year old California red blend is drinking very nicely now. Rich and extracted. Fruit forward and complex. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel. This Single Vineyard is soft and buttery. Spicy and bold. Tangy and very entertaining. The high alcohol is somewhat showing. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 45 minutes of airtime. Good by itself, and will also pair nicely with a big piece of steak. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Malbec, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre, Grenache and Zinfandel. Aged for 10 months in French and American Oak barrels. 14.9% alcohol by volume. 91 points. $20.

Dark ruby in color. Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries and chocolates notes. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry and very fruity on the palate with black currants, blackberries, plums, cooked cherries, tobacco leaf, herbs, caramel and black pepper. Medium length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This young Grenache blend from California is drinking very nicely now. Nicely balanced and elegant. Complex and easy drinking. Good right out of the bottle, and better with some airtime. I used to love this wine years ago and haven't tried it in 5 years. It's not that exciting to me anymore, but still good. A nice sipping wine that will also pair nicely with a burger. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Petite Sirah. Aged for 10 months in (30% new) French Oak barrels. 15.3% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $40.

This Lodi Zinfandel is always enjoyable, and a good party wine. Showing a strong nose, and medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry to off dry on the palate with mild complexity. Showing red and black fruits with wood, earth, chocolates, tobacco, spices, peppercorn and coffee. Spicy short finish with soft tannins and tangy cherries. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food. 15% alcohol by volume. 88 points. $12.

Pretty nose of black fruits with cedar, vanilla, tobacco, chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, licorice and cola. Full-bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and fruit forward on the palate with black currants, black plums, blackberries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, cola, light herbs, chocolates, peppercorn and tobacco. Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries. This is a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon based Bordeaux blend from Mount Veeder in Napa Valley. Elegant and nicely balanced. Fruit forward, rich and smooth. Good right out of the bottle, and better after 90 minutes of airtime Will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years. Good by itself as a sipping wine, or with a big piece of steak. A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Zinfandel, 7.5% Petit Verdot and 7.5% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (33% new) French Oak barrels for 20 months. 14.9% alcohol by volume. 93 points. $75.

Artiste Winery Malaguena Non Vintage, Santa Barbara County, California Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim. Medium plus in body with medium acidity. Dry and fruity on the palate, with a strong and complex nose. Showing blackberries, black currants, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, herbs and peppercorn. Long finish with soft tannins and tangy cherries. This Zinfandel based blend from Santa Barbara County is drinking beautifully now, and drinking at its peak. Rich and fruit forward. Nicely balanced and complex. Delicious right out of the bottle, and feels like an Orin Swift red blend. I had it 5 years ago, and it is drinking so much better now. Elegant and good by itself as a sipping wine. Paired beautifully with my steak. A blend of 77% Zinfandel and 23% Petit Verdot. Bottled in 2019. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 92 points. $50.
