The inscription reads: "1881286 SAPPER J. L. GERRARD ROYAL ENGINEERS 12TH FEBRUARY 1940". Below the text is a large engraved Latin cross. The grave is located in a churchyard with green grass and small white flowers (snowdrops) growing at the base.
