Prose dialogue: “Here’s the thing, Tech Support… at heart, we’re all narcissists. Given a choice, the first thing we’ll usually reach for is the option that makes us feel better about ourselves. That’s the value of philosophy. You train the mind to prefer the options that are going to be the most productive, the most pro-social. You make it so that doing the right thing is your first choice, the one you would always want to make.
Problem is, propaganda does the same thing, but in the other direction. People aren’t inherently bad. We’re not savage beasts, built to rape and kill. That’s the popular assumption, but it’s just not true. People want to make a good choice, and feel like they’re doing the right thing. Propaganda teaches them that wrong is right, that they should reach for the evil option first, and they should feel good about it. That’s what we’re up against.”
Someday, I’ll get back to it. Someday, I’ll have time again. For now, the best I can do is throw good bits into my notes when they come up, so they’ll be there when I’m ready for them again. #AmNotWriting
