Hogweed is a firm favourite with all kinds of insects. We grow it especially for them! Here we have a Longhorn beetle, a tachinid fly and honey bee proving the point! #WildFlowerHour #PollinatorPals #InsectWeek21

At around 3.5-5mm, most of our visitors remain blissfully unaware of our Figwort Weevils (Cionus scrophulariae), pictured here "getting jiggy" on one of our many Water Figwort plants. If you visit us, see if you manage to spot any!

First Scarlet Tiger moth (Callimorpha dominula) of the year for us here this morning, sitting right in the middle of the boardwalk. 🙄
It may just have emerged; the left forewing doesn't seem fully inflated yet...

Here's another take on one of our Rosemary beetles (Chrysolina americana) on lavender. And yes, I know it's still upside down 🙄
Taken with a new to me @SigmaImagingUK 180mm macro lens. [Will likely need a click]

New kid on the block!
We spotted this bug a couple of days ago. It's a Closterotomus trivialis (a Miridae plant bug). Native to the Mediterranean, it was first reported from London in 2009. Likely reintroduced many times on horticultural produce. [ID Stewart Bevan]

It’s not often that I see a new species of robberfly. Golden-haired robberfly Choerades marginatus. In Finemere Wood today. #insectweek21
Could someone help me with an ID for this #hoverfly please? No open wing shots sadly. Chrysotoxum sp.? Back garden this afternoon.

This little one really did not want its photo taken. After watching it hiding behind leaves for about five minutes, I finally got this single shot. Speckled Bush-cricket (Leptophyes punctatissima) nymph I presume.

Yep, sure enough, yesterday's Currant Clearwing is there and now appears to be flying a circuit around the yard. Blackcurrant bush, sunny wall, calendula flower, repeat. #InsectWeek21 #moths

Normally it takes a long time to see the fruits of conservation management work. This morning was an exception. A soon as one of our volunteers had finished clearing reed from one of our ponds, the dragonflies and damselflies were there ovipositing. Result!

Good to see lots of Ladybird larvae in the Valley at the moment. This one is a Seven spot Ladybird (Coccinella septempunctata) on one of our Ox-eye daisies.
Another post for #InsectWeek21
We should of course have added #InsectWeek21 to our initial Tweet. Sigh.

It may be nearly mid-summer, but we're still seeing reasonable numbers of quite fresh looking "spring" butterflies around, like this Orange-tip (Anthocharis cardamines). Is anyone else still seeing spring butterflies?
