Buffer Time: The Missing Ingredient of Pacing with Chronic Illness | The Health Sessions Struggle to deal with unexpected events? Here's how you can apply buffer time to optimize your pacing routine with chronic illness.

“Life’s surprises are already inconvenient when you’re a healthy person with a #busy #schedule. But it becomes problematic when you depend on #planning and #pacing to get things done with #ChronicIllness.”: buff.ly/yL4cL9Z

Learning to say no was one of the hardest things chronic illness taught me. But it was also one of the most freeing. Protecting your energy isn't selfish, it's survival.

Trailcraft on Thin Ice: Hiking with Lupus, RA, POTS & Intracranial Hypertension Living with multiple systemic illnesses in wild terrain requires more than grit. It takes strategy, humility, and respect for a body that can crash in five directions at once.

Finally getting back out this week after: prolonged flare, recovery, flare relapse and now recovery again. This was a good #reminder for me... Not just #hiking but for #mindest and #pacing for every day life.

The Hypnotic Secret to Winning Deals (Michael Lovitch) What if everything you’ve been taught about closing a deal is actually triggering your prospect’s brain to run the other way? Standard B2B sales playbooks are built on friction: pitch features, battle objections, and push for a close. But neurologically speaking, when you push, the buyer's natural defense mechanism is to push back. Today, we break down an unconventional framework from Michael Lovitch's Comfort Control Selling. ..and all within my 60-minute daily limit for 'Moderate' activity - as measured by the #KiActiv sportswatch that I wear.

11 hours of overnight rest and Monday will be manageable 😊

Cooked a meal and thought that was it for the day; but after lying down for 30 minutes I decided to go to the gym after all.

I don't regret it! Feeling much better in myself and still FIFTEEN #VisibleHealth PacePoints behind today's PaceSetter 😊

I've managed so much today by #Pacing!

weswegen sie dann „den Rest des Tages platt“ seien.

Slept for another 3 hours. Sorted 😄

Lucky that I was able to do so 🙏

I'll be pacing very carefully as I mow our lawn, resting regularly, and I'll be cautious before also choosing (or not) to then visit the gym. Debilitating Post-Exertional-Malaise needs avoiding.

Pacing With Chronic Illness: The Fundamentals That Make Everything Else Work Tired of the boom-and-bust cycle? Discover how pacing with chronic illness helps prevent crashes and create steadier, more sustainable days.

"But #pacing with #ChronicIllness is often framed in terms of #behavior. Do less. Rest more. Cancel earlier. Say no sooner. That framing keeps the focus on action. The real focus should be #baseline.": buff.ly/AMreIeo

That was nearly 2 years ago & I haven’t worked since.

But I’m also now preparing to start my own independent Occupational Therapy practice shaped by both my clinical experience and my lived experience of chronic illness.

I was incredibly lucky to have an understanding manager who, towards the end of my contract, allowed me to work a few hours a week from home completing a stroke audit.

Again I bounced in and out of work, periods of sickness followed by attempts to return, until eventually I went on long-term sick leave.

Sadly, just before starting that role I caught another work acquired COVID infection & my health deteriorated significantly. Over the following 2 years I had 4 pulmonary embolisms despite being on anticoagulation.

It was maternity leave cover and I saw it as giving myself a year to figure things out. I thought maybe a different setting would be more manageable. And if it was still too difficult, then I would know it was time to make a change.

I tried so hard to hold on to my career. I bounced in and out of work off sick, phased returns, reasonable adjustments & reducing my hours. Eventually I changed specialty & went back to a hospital I had previously worked at.

2 weeks into that job I caught a work-acquired COVID infection that completely changed my life.

I now live with multiple life changing diagnoses, take over 40 tablets a day & spend most of my days in bed.

The dream turned into a nightmare.

This memory pops up every year & it always takes my breath away.

6 years ago I was about to start my dream job in neurorehabilitation. I had an active social life, went to the gym regularly & was even looking at houses to buy. Life was great!

Hacks for Chronic Disease Management That You Need Living with chronic illness is damn difficult. If you’re reading this post, you probably know that. I’ve lived with it for over 20 years, and I’ve tried all sorts of different things over the years…

"If you’re having trouble getting actual rest, ask yourself if you’re really trying to rest or instead just taking a break. Yes, there’s a difference! I take a lot of breaks, but #working on this blog (for eg) isn’t #resting.": buff.ly/qFFePt2
