Mostly an excuse to show off my new and improved show logo #scriptsky #firstpagefriday #funpagefriday
A cold open for a TV show where the characters are playing beer pong with juice which is a fairly nerdy thing to do at college.
For #firstpagefriday — a script I’ve abandoned! The cold open is as far as I got. 🫣
It was meant to be a Freaks and Geeks meets I don’t know what yet. Roughly based on me and my more literary inclined college friends at a liberal arts school. #scriptsky
Today I'm doing something different for #FirstPageFriday
I'm posting my soundtrack for MOONLIGHT.
Enjoy.

Here we are yet again, perched on the brink of another weekend, so let’s celebrate (or protest—your call) continued existence by making muddy handprints on the wall.
If ya have a first page or a final page or a fun page you feel like sharing, here’s your sign to do so.

CHYRON - TORONTO, MAY 1924 EXT. WOODBINE RACETRACK - TORONTO - DAY Under an unusually hot May sun, trainers work out the horses on a heavy track. SPECTATORS mill about on the grounds and in the grandstand. JACK GILMOUR (24, tall), in a stylish cotton jacket, deftly rolls a silver dollar across his knuckles. His brother RUSS (26, strong), in a casual shirt and suspenders, slurps ice cream from a cup. EUGENE MARTINI (40s, chubby) waddles over. He fans himself with his racing form. EUGENE My nuts are meltin' into my Oxfords. Eugene side-eyes Russ. EUGENE Heard you guys were at Fusty's. (beat) How much ya lose? Russ gives him a low, muted whistle. Eugene wipes his forehead and flings the sweat away. EUGENE Christ, everybody knows that little lunatic runs a fixed game. (beat) Except for you two, apparently. Who ya got? Jack holds up five fingers. Eugene scans his racing form. EUGENE "Hay Fever. Forty to one." The long shot? He finished out of the money in his last five races, Jack. (beat) I changed my mind. Fusty Fraser isn't the lunatic. You are. Jack smirks. The "First Call" trumpet BLARES. He kisses the silver dollar for luck. At the bell, the gates fly open. Powerful thoroughbreds tear up the heavy track. Hay Fever immediately slips to the back of the pack. EUGENE Maybe he needs a push.

I shot this scene for a proof of concept short film.
A chronically and mentally unwell disabled woman is thrown into a murder mystery when her husband’s mistress is found dead.
The Woman Who Knows is a psychological thriller about trauma, loss, and perseverance.

INT. PLAZA HOTEL - DAY Glenn Cooper raises his fist to knock on the Beatles' hotel door when it suddenly swings open. He finds himself face to face with a smiling young man. GLENN Jesus! Beatles associate NEIL ASPINALL (23) offers his hand. NEIL Nope. Just plain old Neil Aspinall. You’re here to see Brian? GLENN I am. I'm Glenn Cooper, from CBS. Glenn follows Neil into the room. At the window, PAUL MCCARTNEY (21) and JOHN LENNON (23) hang their heads out of the window. SCREAMS echo from below. BRIAN I thought I asked you fellows to stop sticking your heads out of the window. JOHN LENNON (O.S) It wasn't our heads last time. Brian turns back to Glenn. GLENN Everything's set. We'll send the limos on Sunday afternoon for the rehearsal. BRIAN Yes, about that. I was wondering - is there another way to get to the studio? Travel has become a terrible problem because of the crowds. NEIL The last time we used a laundry truck. Lennon and McCartney continue to tease the crowd. PAUL MCCARTNEY (O.S.) Look at all the reporters down there. JOHN LENNON (O.S.) Someone hand me the tray of pastries

Ace and Kat: From The Files of Eagle Squadron: "The Rocketeer meets Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow."
The Wolf Warrior: "Quest For Camelot meets The Dragonslayers by Bruce Coville (with a little bit Lord of the Rings and The Lion King)
FADE IN: BLACK SCREEN Nothing but muffled sounds. Fuzzy, static... loud and frantic <FOOTSTEPS>. <YELLING>. <GUNSHOTS>. BEETLE (V.O.) Where is he?! Where’d he go?! MOTH (V.O.) This can’t be happening! Not now! More <GUNSHOTS>. <SIRENS> wail. WASP (V.O.) That little brat, he abandoned us! POLICE OFFICER (V.O.) GET ON THE GROUND! WASP (V.O.) I’ll get that wheelman if it’s the last thing I do! I’ll get you-- INT. CAR - INTERCUT The interior of a simple car. Cheap. Tidy. Nothing out of the ordinary here. In the drivers’ seat MAGENTA (30s, Latin), a purple haired social worker, steadily keeps the car going down the road. MAGENTA --Spider? Spider, are you awake? A figure is laying down across the backseats of the car, just out of view. MAGENTA (CONT'D) We’re almost there. I’m sure you’re gonna like it in Parvusville. Cosy, slow... it’s just what you’ll need. Silence. The figure laying down neither speaks nor moves. MAGENTA You don’t need to speak, not after all that. But... a simple ‘OK’ would work. (quieter) Or a thank you for spending all that money on your outfit. The figure raises a hand, giving a brief thumbs up.
MAGENTA (beat) Good enough, I suppose. EXT. PARVUSVILLE OUTSKIRTS - CONTINUOUS A quiet road leading down a hill overlooking a woodland town. From afar it’s a sparse neighbourhood, a small downtown district and a sizeable park. The car drives towards it, heading downhill and passing by a cracked billboard that reads, ‘Welcome to Parvusville’. A NASA sticker is blatantly slapped across the rear bumper. MAGENTA (O.S.) But, really, the clothes you had before were just fine. Isn’t all of this... a bit much? The car heads out of sight. A TINY BEAR, barely two inches tall, scurries across the road. EXT. TRENTON GROUP HOME - DAY The car pulls up outside of a large rustic building at the end of a suburban street. A crack runs across one of the front windows and much of the paint is chipped. MAGENTA Well, here you are. I’d stay and see you indoors, but I have three more fosters to see today. I trust that you can settle yourself in? Silence. MAGENTA (CONT’D) I’ll be back in a few weeks to see how you’re settling in and what, if any, changes might be needed. Until then, try to stay out of trouble. (beat) Come on, up you get. Up, up, up! The door opens. A shiny and new pair of bovver boots hit the ground. PAN UP to reveal their owner. SPIDER (16, White): stoic, smart and near-silent. Looks like the coolest guy around. Some would call him speed itself. He shuts the door behind himself. Takes in the sight of the group home. Quirks an eyebrow behind his sunglasses. The car drives away, leaving him to stand alone. He adjusts his jeans and sleek Nehru jacket.
Spider puts his hands in his pockets. <EXHALES>. AUNT BETTY (O.S.) Ah, you must be Spider. Spider turns. An older woman approaches him from within the old doors of the group home. AUNT BETTY (60s, White): a chipper lady of dotty mannerisms and a fluffy red dress. Either knows everything or nothing... AUNT BETTY Magenta called ahead. She said to expect you at twelve sharp. That being said, it’s five past... Spider gives her a shrug. AUNT BETTY (CONT'D) Oh, but it’s not a big deal is it, really? Welcome to Parvusville and the Trenton Boarding House. I’m Mrs. Trenton, but... She glances around, conspirative. AUNT BETTY (CONT'D) Well, everyone calls me Aunt Betty, so you can too! Spider gives her a thumbs up, nodding along to her words. AUNT BETTY (CONT'D) Now, what say we get you settled in? Hm, you packed rather light didn’t you, dearie? Spider just shrugs - nothing but the clothes on his back. AUNT BETTY Only the essentials, that’s what I always say. Come along then. Spider begins to follow her indoors. A soft <WHIRR> of an engine gives him pause. He looks around. Spots four tiny sports cars zooming across the pavement, keeping within a chalk lined ‘track’. Spider stares. Rubs his eyes. Stares some more. The cars are gone, perhaps around the corner. AUNT BETTY (O.S.) Today Spider, thank you! Spider shakes his head. Proceeds indoors.

PASTURE Cajun Prince grazes in the pasture. Billy strokes the horse's coat. BILLY All right, boy. Let's go. As Billy starts to lead the horse to the trailer, Cajun Prince performs a bizarre, dance-like skipping trot. JACK (hisses) Billy! Billy turns. Jack's chin hangs down to his chest. Billy watches Cajun Prince skip across the grass like a flapper. BILLY That? He just started doing that a few months ago. Not sure why. JACK What the fuck, Billy? BILLY It's not a big deal. I figgered-- JACK Not a big deal?! Look! Cajun Prince prances like a Lipizzaner stallion. JACK (O.S.) We're fucked. BILLY No we're not. Watch. Billy hums "Ain't She Sweet" to Cajun Prince. The horse immediately stops dancing. BILLY See? He calms right down whenever I sing or hum to him. Billy hums and walks Cajun Prince across the ground. When Billy stops humming, the horse flits across the grass. JACK Jesus Christ. He's strutting around like a Times Square hooker.

It's FriYAY. Yeah, I said it, #ScriptSky. Fight me.
For #firstpagefriday, here's my sci-fi Western, HALFWAY TO HELL, first page. Blade meets Firefly.
Late to the party as usual (though not stylishly late, alas).
Fragment from the thing I'm writing about bloodsuckers. I'm on hiatus from it at the moment (gig!) - but will be coming back to it later.
Drawn from my recollections of the Home Office.

First page of the Necrolepsy screenplay which reads: EXT. BIG PHARMA LAB – DAY, SUNSET A modern, sterile monstrosity of glass, metal, and bleached concrete set amongst carefully manicured landscaping. BRIAN (30s, m), absentminded, sloppily dressed, jogs past a sign with a modern, geometric, and indecipherable logo. He pulls up at the front doors and fumbles with his employee badge, he swipes it angrily at a badge reader. ANNOYED BEEP A red light winks. He groans. Tries again. Same result. Fuck it. He tries another door. CLICK Finally! He yanks the door open and stomps inside. INT. BIG PHARMA LAB – DAY, SUNSET Severe, high tech, all computer monitors, steel and tile. Several lab coats hang on hooks by the door. Brian floats in to find CAROLINE (30s, F), all business with a tidy bun and fashionable outfit, as she preps syringes. A SCREECH rings out from one of the many cages lining one wall. CAROLINE Late again Bri, and I think someone noticed. BRIAN Yeah, yeah. What’s on the docket? Still narcolepsy meds? CAROLINE Yup. Gonna have to keep your sweetie up all night. He nabs a lab coat, slips it on en route to the cages. A happy CRY now as he approaches a mother rhesus monkey and her two babies. BRIAN (to monkey) Hey Sasha. Feeling ok tonight?
First page of the Terms & Conditions screenplay which reads: EXT. SUBURBAN HOUSE — DUSK Boring, whitebread suburbia. Immaculate lawns, over-priced cars in the driveways, every cookie cutter house the same. Except the one right in front of us. The tightly drawn black curtains on a bedroom window promise gothic angst inside. Pre-lap: The clacking of a mechanical keyboard... INT. DARK BEDROOM - NIGHT ROB (30s, M), his bleary eyes slits, stands at his desk interacting with ChadPDG — his AI agent. ROB (outloud, as he types) Okay, I think I’ve found the right book. Are you sure you can translate a summoning spell in Latin? ON COMPUTER SCREEN CHADPDG (typed out) Yes, of course. Drop in the pages and let me work. The ChadPDG window minimizes and we see a cursor open a folder and grab a group of images of text and ancient pictures. The window comes back, with a CLICK Rob releases the mouse button and the pictures drop into the UI. CHADPDG (typed out) Thank you. Give me just a moment to process these... INT. DARK BEDROOM - NIGHT ROB (still typing) Perfect. Send the response to my phone. He backs away from the desk and turns to take in his room. It’s a wreck. ...Except the space cleared in the center of the room. Rob crosses to his bed and kneels down. He pulls out a thin sheet of plywood that’s been painted black. He swings the board into the empty floor space and we see what could only be a magic circle has been crudely chalked on it.
Time for a #FirstPageFriday #FPF twofer! Page one of my feature Necrolepsy and for my short @terms-n-cons.bsky.social which just made quarterfinalist in Killer Shorts and we're shooting next week!
