A new #toadflax endemic to Almada (#Portugal) !!!
A new species, Linaria almadensis, has been described from the cliffs of Gargalo do Tejo, in Almada, just across from Lisbon. Although first collected in 1843, it was only recently recognized as distinct by João Farminhão during a taxonomic revision.

Two Sylvanian Families babies are sitting on a narrow ledge formed from large old stone. Toadflax wildflower grows along the ledge around them with one tendrils trailing down over the edge. The leaves are roundish with notched edges. The largest have five lobes, the smallest, at the ends of crawling and draping tendrils, have three lobes. The Sylvanians are Pickle, a grey striped cat baby, on the left, and a tiny cradled black cat baby. It's Reggie!
Still warm enough to enjoy a rest outdoors!
This is a break from searching for shiny treasures again. This time we are searching for CHRISTMAS SHINIES!

Wild walk today. Common #Toadflax growing in a lovely wildflower scrubby copse, spotted a whitethroat #bird flitting in amongst it, as I turned corner a stunning #RedSquirrel ran across trail path scurrying up into the safety of Scot’s pine canopy. Don’t know who was more surprised- them or us 🤎🧡🥰.

Though considered an invasive weed, Toadflax flowers are certainly attractive. Similar in structure to Snapdragons, these smaller flowers are two-toned, and each feature butter-yellow upper petals, an orange lower lip, and a straight spur. They are borne on racemes above narrow, pointed green leaves.
